Summary: Stable isotope tracers are commonly used with gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry for enzyme activity and metabolic pathway studies. In this research, three commercially available instruments were used to analyze samples from a stable isotope labeling study on Rothia mucilaginosa metabolism. The study found that all three GC-MS instruments can be used for stable isotope tracing studies, with high-resolution GC-QTOF MS offering additional capabilities in identifying the chemical structures of unknown compounds.

Summary: The immature epicarps of Juglans mandshurica and Juglans regia have been traditionally used as folk medicine for cancer treatment in China. The leaves of J. mandshurica show potential for medicinal use due to their high content of certain compounds. It was found for the first time that the total content of diarylheptanoids in J. mandshurica is higher than that in J. regia, while J. regia has higher contents of phenolic compounds.

Summary: A unique and effective two-dimensional liquid chromatography system was established for the analysis of bioactive components in honeysuckle. The system utilized optimized conditions, columns, flow rates, and organic solvents to improve chromatographic resolution. 57 compounds were identified by mass spectrometry, and it was found that the composition of honeysuckle varied significantly among different regions. Additionally, most samples exhibited potent alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity, which is beneficial for drug quality evaluation.

Summary: Due to the similar reactivity of organic hydroperoxides (OHPs), HPLC separation is typically required for their indirect quantification in mixtures. NMR is an ideal tool for simultaneous quantification of OHPs in mixtures due to its high sensitivity to chemical shifts, but the concentration of these analytes in the samples of interest is usually below the sensitivity of standard NMR experiments.

Summary: In this study, the ability of surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) combined with chemometrics to detect and quantify Sudan I-IV dyes was investigated. Using a portable Raman device and gold nanoparticles as the SERS substrate, low concentration food contamination by these dyes was successfully detected and quantified.

Summary: This research focused on the biodegradation of synthetic estrogenic compound 17 alpha-ethinylestradiol (EE2) and compared its degradation efficiency and power output in suspension flasks and a Bioelectrochemical System (BES). The results showed that the BES had significantly higher EE2 removal rate and power density. The study also identified a potential pathway for EE2 degradation using the newly isolated strain Rhodopseudomonas palustris MDOC01, and detected important metabolites during the bioelectrochemical treatment process of EE2.

Summary: A new method using gas chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) was established for simultaneous determination of four furfurals in dairy products. The method showed good linearity, low detection limits, and satisfactory recoveries. The method was successfully applied to analyze four furfurals in 30 cheese samples, and trace levels of furfurals were found in cheeses.

Summary: This study developed a fast and high throughput method based on the QuEChERS technique combined with GC-QTOF/MS for the simultaneous determination of 21 OPFRs in rice samples. The factors affecting sample pretreatment and GC-QTOF/MS were optimized, and IDMS was used for accurate quantification. The method showed good recoveries and low LOQs, and successfully detected 14 OPFRs in real rice samples within a wide concentration range.

Summary: This study aimed to establish and validate a rapid and reliable liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS) method for the simultaneous quantification of cefiderocol and meropenem in human plasma of critically ill patients. The method involved protein precipitation using acetonitrile for sample clean-up, followed by reverse phase chromatography using triple quadrupole LC/MS. The developed method showed good linearity, accuracy, and sensitivity for both cefiderocol and meropenem, with stability at different temperatures and protein binding assessed in human plasma.

Summary: PFAS, a large group of synthetic organic compounds widely used in consumer and industrial products, have become widespread in the environment. Global regulations requiring monitoring of PFAS have been implemented due to their potential health and eco-toxicological effects. Targeted methods monitor a small fraction of PFAS compounds, while there is growing interest in complementary non-targeted methods to screen and identify unknown PFAS compounds.
