Summary: The effect of platelet-rich plasma on nerve regeneration in a rabbit model of sciatic nerve small-gap defects with preserved epineurium was investigated. Results showed that platelet-rich plasma with specific concentrations of whole blood platelets promoted repair of sciatic nerve injury. Proteomics analysis revealed that platelet-rich plasma affects angiogenesis and intracellular ubiquitin levels in the regeneration process.

Summary: The study proposes a novel microtube for sciatic nerve regeneration using gradient decellularized porcine sciatic nerve extracellular matrix hydrogel (pDScNM-gel). The pDScNM is shown to enhance cell proliferation and migration, improve axon growth, and these effects can also be achieved through coculture in a gradient pDScNM microtube. In vivo sciatic nerve regeneration and functional recovery are demonstrated by assembling the gradient pDScNM microtubes with a medical silicon tube.

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of dietary taurine on lipid metabolism and liver injury in mice fed a diet high in oxidized fish oil. The results showed that dietary taurine could ameliorate liver injury and lipid metabolism disorder caused by the oxidized fish oil diet. Taurine supplementation improved liver function, reduced lipid levels in serum, and increased the expression of genes related to lipid metabolism in the liver. Furthermore, impaired autophagy flux caused by the oxidized fish oil diet was prevented by taurine.

Summary: The depletion of RhoA in macrophages has a negative impact on Wallerian degeneration and nerve regeneration, mainly due to impaired migration and phagocytosis of macrophages resulting from disrupted RhoA/ROCK/MLCK pathway. Since previous research has shown that RhoA inhibition in neurons promotes axonal regeneration, the study highlights the importance of considering cellular specificity of RhoA-targeted drugs in future applications for treating peripheral nerve injuries.

Summary: The traditional belief that peripheral neuropathic pain is driven by microglia has been challenged in a recent study, which found that the nucleus pulposus (NP) of the intervertebral disc can induce neuropathic pain independently of microglia activation. The study showed that NP-induced pain hypersensitivity relies on cells within the NP that recruit macrophages to the adjacent nerve. The findings suggest a previously unknown mechanism for peripheral nerve lesion-induced pain hypersensitivity, which may help explain the limited success of microglial inhibitors in clinical trials for neuropathic pain.

Summary: Peripheral nerves are easily prone to injuries and require supportive strategies to stimulate nerve growth and functional recovery. The impact of diet on health and body function is crucial, with balanced nutrition being essential for the health of the central and peripheral nervous systems. Many dietary supplements have shown to play a significant role in peripheral nerve development and regeneration, emphasizing the importance of tailored dietary plans for patients with nerve injuries in promoting nerve regeneration.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of maternal vitamin D levels during pregnancy on infantile eczema. The findings suggest that lower prenatal maternal vitamin D levels increase the risk of eczema in infants aged 0-1 year. Furthermore, the study indicates that infants with eczema have lower expression of the Foxp3 gene in cord blood and decreased placental FOXP3 protein expression. These results suggest that vitamin D may affect the development of infantile eczema through the regulation of gene and protein expression in cord blood and placenta.

Summary: Long-term consumption of a high-fat diet disrupts energy balance and leads to weight gain. The fat mass and obesity-associated (FTO) gene is involved in high-fat diet-induced obesity. The hypothalamus plays a crucial role in regulating energy balance, and high-fat diet-induced hypothalamic leptin resistance contributes to obesity. The study reveals that FTO is associated with hypothalamic leptin resistance and provides new insight into its role in obesity.
