Summary: This paper extends previous research by proposing that the relationship between family ownership and performance of entrepreneurial firms follows a quadratic inverse-U shape, which is moderated by family management and external blockholding. The hypotheses are tested on ten years of panel data from European firms and the analysis supports the proposed relationship. The findings have important implications for the theory and practice of entrepreneurial firms.

Summary: The study finds that total compensation typically follows stewardship theory and positively impacts CSR engagement, breadth, and depth; while fixed and variable compensations adhere to agency theory and have negative and positive impacts on CSR engagement, breadth, and depth, respectively. The research also reveals that high-leverage firms demonstrate baseline results in external control, while non-business group firms exhibit baseline results in internal control. Moreover, in terms of institutional ownership, total compensation and variable compensation follow stewardship and agency theories, respectively, and positively affect CSR engagement, while fixed compensation is unaffected by institutional ownership in influencing CSR engagement.

Summary: This paper examines the impact of CEO duality on bank loan contracting costs. The findings indicate that CEO duality results in stricter loan contracting terms, including higher loan rates and shorter loan maturity. The results are robust after conducting various tests and are more pronounced for firms facing higher internal and external uncertainties. Information asymmetry and CEO entrenchment are identified as potential channels through which CEO duality increases bank loan contracting costs. The evidence supports the agency theory view that CEO duality increases credit risk and leads to stricter bank loan contracting terms.
