Summary: Nanofibrous mats and cyclodextrins are essential components in drug releasing systems, with cyclodextrins playing a key role in enhancing drug release profile by forming inclusion complexes. This study focused on analyzing the drug release profile of benzocaine using electrospun PVdF nanofibrous mats, with and without beta-cyclodextrin, demonstrating enhanced drug release ability with the presence of beta-CD due to increased solubility of benzocaine.

Summary: Hydrogels have tunability and biocompatibility, but are not good at delivering small molecules due to high burst release and rapid diffusion. Nanosilicate clays can improve this issue by slowing down the release kinetics. In this study, the adsorption of small molecules onto three nanoclays (Laponite, montmorillonite, and halloysite) was characterized, and the addition of nanoclays significantly slowed down the release of small molecules from hydrogels.

Summary: Recent studies have focused on investigating the harmful side effects of chemotherapeutic agents, with Fe2O3 nanoparticles being explored as potential drug carriers due to their porosity. A nanocomposite of Fe2O3/chitosan/montmorillonite was developed to encapsulate quercetin nanoparticles with less side effects. The designed Fe2O3-CS-MMT@QC showed high drug encapsulation efficiency and controlled release, demonstrating potential for drug delivery to cancer cells.

Summary: To enhance the solubility of ethinylestradiol (EE) in water, researchers prepared diethylenetriamine-beta-cyclodextrin/ethinylestradiol (DETA-beta-CD/EE) complex and designed core-shell composite hydrogel capsules with aldocellulose and hydroxyethyl cellulose as the core and sodium alginate as the shell. The prepared hydrogel capsules exhibited controlled and sustained release of soluble DETA-beta-CD/EE, pH-responsiveness to intestinal fluid, and non-toxicity to normal human cells.

Summary: By embedding DSF in HP-β-CD to prepare an inclusion complex with enhanced solubility and anti-GBM activity, intranasal administration of DSF/HP-β-CD/Cu showed promising therapeutic effects in inhibiting tumor growth and migration, promoting apoptosis, and extending median survival time in rats compared to oral and intravenous administrations. Additionally, no obvious histopathological damage to normal tissues was observed, indicating the potential of DSF/HP-β-CD/Cu as an effective intranasal formulation for GBM treatment.

Summary: This study developed an eco-friendly, cost-effective, and efficient adsorbent using a cross-linked 3-D network hydrogel based on kappa-carrageenan (KCG) and tamarind kernel powder (TKP). The hydrogel exhibited a high adsorption capacity for the removal of brilliant green (BG) and rose bengal (RB) dyes from wastewater. The adsorption capacity was influenced by parameters such as dye concentration, pH, temperature, and adsorbent amount. The kinetic, isotherm, and thermodynamic studies showed that the hydrogel followed pseudo-second-order kinetics and the Langmuir isotherm model.
