Summary: This study aimed to investigate the preventive effect of gossypin against LPS-induced lung inflammation and explore the underlying mechanism. Rats were orally administered different doses of gossypin and various parameters were measured. The results showed that gossypin significantly reduced lung tissue wet to dry weight ratio, inflammatory cells, total protein, macrophages, and neutrophils in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Gossypin also affected the levels of inflammatory cytokines, antioxidants, and inflammatory parameters, as well as Nrf2 and HO-1 expression. The findings suggest that gossypin can improve the severity of ALI by enhancing lung tissue integrity, decreasing alveolar wall thickness, reducing pulmonary interstitial edema and inflammatory cell infiltration.

Summary: Forsythoside B hampers IL-1 beta-elicited rat chondrocyte apoptosis, oxidative stress, and facilitates proliferation. It suppresses the profiles of inflammatory factors and NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 inflammasomes, as well as Kelch-like epichlorohydrin-associated protein-1 (Keap1) and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappa B) phosphorylation, while promotes nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) levels. Furthermore, Forsythoside B mitigates cartilage damage and degeneration.

Summary: In this study, the effects of Menthae Herba (MH) on the inflammatory response and molecular mechanisms in activated microglia were evaluated. The results showed that MH inhibited the production of proinflammatory enzymes and mediators, reduced reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, and activated antioxidant signaling pathways. These findings suggest the potential therapeutic use of MH in neuroinflammatory diseases.

Summary: In this study, we discovered a new approach to alleviate liver damage caused by severe septic shock by controlling a form of controlled cell death called ferroptosis. We found that artemisitene (ATT) significantly reduced liver damage and ferroptotic characteristics. Additionally, ATT reduced the expression of the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) subunit to reduce LPS-induced hepatic oxidative stress and inflammation, and upregulated the expression of the nuclear factor-erythroid 2 (NF-E2)-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and its downstream protein heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1).

Summary: The novel antimicrobial peptide YD1 isolated from Kimchi exhibits strong anti-inflammatory effects by up-regulating the Nrf2 pathway and suppressing the NF-kappa B pathway, resulting in reduced proinflammatory cytokine production. YD1 also acts as a potent antioxidant by inhibiting NO and PGE(2) production, indicating its potential as a therapeutic agent.

Summary: This study investigated the potential coloprotective role of carbocisteine in acetic acid-induced colitis in rats. The results showed that carbocisteine improved colon histology, macroscopic features, and disease activity. It also enhanced colon antioxidant defense mechanisms, suppressed neutrophil infiltration and activation, and modulated the expression of multiple cytokines. The study suggests that carbocisteine has the potential to be repurposed as a treatment for ulcerative colitis.

Summary: Sinapic acid has been found to improve cardiac damage in diabetic rats by alleviating hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia-induced cardiac dysfunction, reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, and enhancing antioxidant defenses. Therefore, it may possess therapeutic potential for the prevention of diabetic cardiac dysfunction and cardiomyopathy via the NRF2/HO-1 and NF-kappa B pathways.

Summary: This study investigates the anti-inflammatory effects of Stevioside (STE) on osteoarthritis (OA) and its underlying mechanism. The findings suggest that STE can ameliorate OA development by inhibiting inflammation, potentially through the Nrf2/HO-1/NF-Kappa B signaling pathway. Treatment with STE also significantly reduces degeneration in the mouse destabilization of the medial meniscus (DMM) model.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of stigmasterol (STIG) and stigmasterol-dexamethasone combination (STIG+DEX) in steroid-resistant asthma. The findings showed that STIG alone had no effect on inflammatory features, but caused some changes in the molecular events related to steroid-resistant asthma. However, the combination of STIG+DEX significantly modulated inflammatory features and protected against lung tissue destruction.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of the total crude alkaloidal extract of Picralima nitida seeds (PNE) on colitis induced with acetic acid. The results showed that PNE protected against colonic injury by reducing mucosal ulceration, epithelial erosion, inflammatory cell infiltration, and colonic edema. Moreover, PNE exerted antioxidant effects and improved hematological parameters. Therefore, PNE has the potential to be used as a therapeutic agent for chronic intestinal inflammatory diseases such as ulcerative colitis.
