Summary: Studies on biofilm-related infections are gaining prominence due to their involvement in most clinical infections and serious threat to global public health. Biofilm is a natural form of bacterial growth that is ubiquitous in ecological niches and acts as a survival mechanism for both pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganisms. Quorum sensing plays a crucial role in biofilm development. Biofilm formation leads to increased resistance to antibiotics and antimicrobial agents. Natural plant-derived phytomedicines, including various compounds such as flavonoids, terpenoids, lectins, alkaloids, polypeptides, polyacetylenes, phenolics, and essential oils, are being explored as alternative and safe therapies with minimal side effects for controlling biofilm production and growth.

Summary: A ciprofloxacin-loaded water-in-oil nanoemulsion (CPX-NE) was prepared and evaluated for its antimicrobial effect against oral biofilms produced by Enterococcus faecalis. The CPX-NE showed optimal rheological parameters, similar pH to the oral cavity, uniform spherical nanodroplets with narrow size distribution and stable charge. In vitro drug release demonstrated sustained release for 48 hours. CPX-NE exhibited significant inhibitory and eradication effect compared to the plain drug solution. Therefore, CPX-NE has effective antibiofilm activity against E. faecalis and may be useful in the prevention and treatment of dental caries.

Summary: Cancer is a major global health issue, with increasing cases each year. The development of cancer is influenced by various factors such as radiation, lifestyle, smoking, environment, and genetics. The cell cycle, regulated by molecular signaling proteins, is disrupted when these proteins are altered, affecting cellular growth and proliferation. Natural products, including phytosterols, have shown promising anti-cancer activities by modulating molecular signaling pathways involved in the tumor microenvironment. Further research is required to establish the clinical efficacy and safety of phytosterols.

Summary: Crosslinking affects the mechanical behavior and tissue metabolism of collagen-based tissues. Aging and diabetes alter the crosslinking type and density, thus changing tissue properties. High-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking and advanced-glycation end-products result in uniform deformation under daily activity, while low-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking does not. High-connectivity model displays more sliding, while AGEs induce instability in structures near the binding sites.
