Summary: This study aimed to improve the antibacterial activity of sulfamethoxazole through the synthesis of a nanocomposite material, which showed efficient drug release and enhanced bioavailability due to its zero Zeta potential. The prepared formulation demonstrated lower minimum inhibitory concentrations against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli compared to pure sulfamethoxazole, suggesting its potential as a sustained drug delivery system.

Summary: Magnetic CuFe2O4 nanoparticles were synthesized via a sol-gel combustion and coated with mesoporous SiO2. The CuFe2O4@SiO2 nanocomposite showed high ibuprofen loading and controlled drug release, with potential applications in biomedicine. Coating CuFe2O4 nanoparticles with mesoporous silica reduced cytotoxicity and improved drug release properties, although it decreased hyperthermia ability.

Summary: This study aimed to develop sustainable active films with starch/carvacrol for potential food packaging. The findings showed that carvacrol nanoemulsion was uniformly dispersed in the film matrix and interacted with hydrogen bonds. The addition of carvacrol improved the thermal stability, UV shielding, water solubility, and water vapor permeability of the films, but reduced their mechanical properties. The sustainable composite films exhibited desirable physical properties and bioactivity, making them suitable for food preservation, especially for extending the shelf life of acidic foods.

Summary: In this study, a drug delivery system based on dendritic mesoporous silica (DMSNs) was developed to deliver the biological pesticide Avermectin (AVM), aiming to control the main stem-borer Monochamus alternatus and the vector of pine wilt disease Bursaphelenchus xylophilus. The AVM@DMSNs NPs composite was prepared through simple physical adsorption, with a loading rate of 85.73%, significantly improving the utilization rate of AVM. The optimized AVM application using DMSNs showed higher contact toxicity and stomach toxicity compared to AVM/EC and AVM treatment, due to the good permeability and adhesion of DMSNs. Moreover, DMSNs exhibited excellent degradation ability in the natural environment and the nanoparticle-mediated pesticide delivery system showed promising absorption and transmission effects in trees.

Summary: By incorporating 0.5% silica powder from sugarcane waste ash into corn starch bioplastics, the elongation at break was improved. However, for potato starch bioplastics, adding 0.5% silica powder did not improve elongation at break but increased thermal resistance. Summary: Crosslinking affects the mechanical behavior and tissue metabolism of collagen-based tissues. Aging and diabetes alter the crosslinking type and density, thus changing tissue properties. High-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking and advanced-glycation end-products result in uniform deformation under daily activity, while low-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking does not. High-connectivity model displays more sliding, while AGEs induce instability in structures near the binding sites.

Summary: The potential of multi-layer nanoemulsions for improving the cellular uptake, antioxidant activity, and in vitro bioaccessibility of alpha-tocopherol was examined. The results showed that the multi-layer nanoemulsions significantly enhanced the cellular uptake and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol compared to free coumarin 6. Furthermore, the use of chitosan and dextran sulfate as wall materials in the multi-layer nanoemulsions led to even higher cellular uptake, in vitro bioaccessibility, and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol.
