Summary: Two new germacrane-type sesquiterpenoids were isolated and identified from Chrysanthemum indicum flowers, along with four known germacrane-type sesquiterpenoids. The new compounds' structures were elucidated using various analytical techniques. All the compounds showed significant hepatoprotective activity in in vitro tests, with compound 1 being the most potent and therefore selected for further investigation. The results suggest that germacrane-type sesquiterpenoids from C. indicum could be developed as liver protectants against oxidative damage.

Summary: This study compared the effects of alkaline microcrystalline cellulose (AMC) deacidification and alkali refining on the physicochemical properties, fatty acid profile, active phytochemicals, antioxidant capacity, and volatile flavor components of crude camellia oil (CO). The results showed that AMC deacidification effectively reduced the acid value and retained more polyphenols, α-tocopherol, and β-sitosterol compared to alkali refining. AMC deacidification also better preserved the acidic flavors of camellia oil. Overall, AMC deacidification is a potentially effective alternative method for camellia oil deacidification.

Summary: This study compared the differences in hydrophilic antioxidants and related bioactivities between Flos Chrysanthemum (JH) and its wild relatives (Chrysanthemum indicum L.; YJH) based on fingerprint-efficacy relationship modeling. The concentrations of total phenolics and flavonoids were generally higher in JH samples compared to YJH samples, but the concentration distribution ranges of YJH were significantly greater. The total antioxidant capabilities of JH were greatly higher than those of YJH samples, and both types of Chrysanthemums showed modulatory effects on lipid and glucose metabolisms.

Summary: In this study, the antioxidant activity and components of Angelica dahurica were investigated using GC-MS and three antioxidant evaluation methods. The results showed that ultrasonic extraction with 80% methanol as the solvent was the optimal condition for extracting the antioxidant components. Isoimperatorin and byakangelicol were identified as the main antioxidant components in Angelica dahurica through spectrum-effect relationship analysis.

Summary: In this study, the allelopathic active constituents of Artemisia argyi were identified using activity-guided isolation and UPLC-QTOF-MS. The results showed that phenolic compounds are the main allelochemicals in A. argyi. Additionally, a novel allelochemical, ICGAA, with broad herbicidal activity was discovered. Further analysis revealed that ICGAA inhibits weed growth by inhibiting the diterpenoid biosynthesis pathway, especially gibberellins (GAs). This study provides new material sources and theoretical support for the development of biological herbicides in agroecosystems.

Summary: Pummelo, a basic species and important type for breeding in Citrus, is not only used for fresh consumption but also for medicinal purposes. In this study, the content of bioactive metabolites and their derivatives were found to increase in pummelo compared to wild citrus species. The genome sequence of a medicinal variety of pummelo, 'Huazhouyou-tomentosa', was assembled and comparative genomics showed enrichment of gene families related to flavonoids, terpenoids, and phenylpropanoids biosynthesis. The study also identified a novel MYB transcription factor, CmtMYB108, as an important regulator of flavone pathways. These findings provide insights into the evolution-associated changes in bioactive metabolism during the origin process of pummelo.
