Summary: This study investigated the feasibility and outcomes of using GOS traps and dengue NS1 antigen tests for indoor and outdoor dengue/Aedes surveillance in a community in Selangor, Malaysia. The study found that this surveillance method was well received by the community and detected dengue-positive mosquitoes. Additionally, it demonstrated a decrease in dengue cases in the study area from 2018 to 2019.

Summary: This study describes the epidemiology of dengue virus infections in Belize diagnosed through AFI surveillance in 2020. Results showed that all four DENV serotypes were detected, with two cases of DENV serotype 4, the first report of this serotype in Belize since 2004. The majority of DENV cases were diagnosed in the Belize District during the dry season. Understanding the epidemiology and clinical characteristics of DENV is crucial for public health interventions to mitigate transmission.

Summary: This study examined the infestation of Hyalomma aegyptium ticks on spur-thighed tortoises, their effects on demographic traits, and the diversity of infectious agents in both ticks and tortoises. The results showed that all tortoises were parasitized by ticks, with male tortoises having higher tick abundances than females. Molecular analysis revealed the presence of infectious agents in ticks, but not in tortoises' blood samples.

Summary: This study identified unconventional species for expanding agroforestry systems in Colombia, such as Helianthus annuus, Olea Europea, Glycine max, Brassica napus, Moringa oleifera, and Jatropha curcas. Using the Colombian Environmental Information System (SIAC) database, zoning was carried out to determine suitable areas for their production. A total area of 212,977.2 km(2) was identified, with Moringa being the most promising species for expansion, covering an area of 75,758 km(2).

Summary: Commercially-available location-based services (LBS) data may serve as an alternative to surveys for monitoring physically-active transportation. Comparisons between StreetLight's metrics for walking and bicycling at the county-level and metrics of physically-active commuting from the American Community Survey showed strong correlations. LBS data can provide timely information on walking and bicycling behavior at finer geographic scales than some existing surveys, particularly in denser and more urban counties.

Summary: Despite various interventions by the Ministry of Health Malaysia, the number of dengue cases in Malaysia continues to increase. This study constructed a transmission model based on dengue incidence data and estimated the transmission rates in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. The results indicate that the dengue infection rate is a critical parameter for dengue transmission, and control strategies should focus on reducing this rate. The predictive tests and numerical simulations in this study provide useful insights for analyzing the effect of mosquito intervention in reducing dengue prevalence in Malaysia.
