1,3-Diphenyl-2-thiourea (DPTU) and 1-phenyl-3-(2-pyridyl)-2-thioutea (PPTU) were selected as the researched subject for investigating the effect of heteroatoms on the low carbon steel corrosion inhibition ability. Results from the potentiodynamic polarization measurements (PPM) indicate that the addition of a nitrogen atom in the benzene ring increases the corrosion inhibition efficiency of PPTU (97.2%), being higher than that of DPTU (93.1%) at the same condition of 2.0 X 10(-4 )M at 30 degrees C. The Nyquist diagrams show that increasing the concentrations of both DPTU and PPTU will enhance the charge-transfer resistance and reduce the double-layer capacitance. The obtained data based on PPM and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods are in accordance to the analysis based on the scanning electrochemical microscopy images. Besides, results from quantum chemical calculations prove that the heteroatoms in the inhibitor molecules are the adsorption centers, and the benzene rings increase the electrostatic interaction between the inhibitor molecules and the steel surface. Results from Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulation have clarified the adsorption mechanism of DPTU and PPTU on the steel surface. Adsorption energies confirm that PPTU displays the higher inhibition ability as compared with DPTU.

Optimizing the Superhydrophobicity of the Composite PDMS/PUA Film Produced by a R2R System

Anh-Duc Pham, Quang Bang Tao, Pham Cam Nam

Summary: Maintaining the efficiency of solar cell panels by keeping their surface clean is a tedious task. This study proposes a simple and cost-effective method of fabricating a flexible and transparent superhydrophobic film. The film's superhydrophobicity is achieved through a combination of surface roughness and low surface energy. The film demonstrates high mechanical durability and flexibility, making it a potential protective cover for solar cells.

Effect of aromatic rings on mild steel corrosion inhibition ability of nitrogen heteroatom-containing compounds: Experimental and theoretical investigation

Nguyen Nhu Hau, Dinh Quy Huong

Summary: The effect of aromatic rings on the corrosion inhibition ability of Pyridine, Quinoline, and 1,10-Phenanthroline on mild steel was investigated using various methods. The results showed that 1,10-Phenanthroline exhibited the highest inhibition efficiency of 80.40% at a concentration of 10 -2 M. Pyridine and Quinoline showed inhibition efficiencies of 46.00% and 64.00%, respectively. The presence of aromatic rings and nitrogen heteroatoms significantly improved the inhibition ability. Theoretical assessment and molecular dynamics simulation supported the experimental findings.

Exploring the Multitarget Activity of Wedelolactone against Alzheimer?s Disease: Insights from In Silico Study

Dang Xuan Du, Nguyen Huu Duy Khang, Nguyen Huu Tri, Pham Cam Nam, Nguyen Minh Thong

Summary: In this study, the multitarget activity of Wedelolactone against Alzheimer's disease was investigated using density functional theory and molecular docking techniques. The scavenging efficiency of Wedelolactone for the HOO· radical in an aqueous environment was found to be higher than Trolox. The chelation capacity of metals and the inhibitory effect of Wedelolactone on AChE and BChE enzymes were also examined.

Experimental and theoretical insights into free radical capturing activity of 1,5-diaminonaphthalene and 1,5-dihydroxynaphthalene

Dinh Quy Huong, Pham Cam Nam, Tran Duong

Summary: The radical scavenging activity of two naphthalene derivatives, 1,5-diaminonaphthalene (DAN) and 1,5-diaminonaphthalene (DAN) and 1,5-dihydroxynaphthalene (DHN), was investigated experimentally and theoretically. DHN demonstrated superior ability to capture DPPH center dot free radicals, while DAN was more effective at neutralizing ABTS(center dot+) radical cations. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed to determine the thermodynamic parameters and investigate the mechanisms of capturing reaction between the derivatives and HOO center dot radical.

Multitarget Mechanisms of 5-hydroxy Ferulic Acid for Cancer Prevention: A Computational Chemistry Study

Nguyen Minh Thong, Mai Van Bay, Quan V. V. Vo, Tran Duc Manh, Pham Cam Nam

Summary: This study used computational methods to investigate the multitarget mechanisms of 5-hydroxy ferulic acid in preventing cancer. The results showed that 5-hydroxy ferulic acid has strong antiradical activity and can form stable complexes with Cu(II) ions. It also exhibited effective inhibition of the thymidylate synthase enzyme. Based on these findings, 5-hydroxy ferulic acid may be a promising cancer treatment.

Quan V. Vo, Do Thi Ngoc Hang, Nguyen Thi Hoa, Pham Cam Nam, Tuan Quang Duong, Adam Mechler

Summary: 4-Mercaptoimidazole (4MC) is a potent radical scavenger with good antioxidant activity, especially against the hydroxyl radical. It demonstrates excellent antiradical activity against various free radicals, such as CH3O, CCl3O, HOO, CH3OO, CCl3OO, NO2, O-2(-), SO4-, DPPH, and ABTS(+). In addition, 4MC has the potential to enhance bioactivity through a regeneration cycle involving the scavenging of O-2(-) and HOO radicals.
