Accumulated evidence on the clinical roles of microRNAs (miRNAs) in cancer prevention and control has revealed the emergence of new genetic techniques that have improved the understanding of the mechanisms essential for pathology induction and progression. Comprehension of the modifications and individual differences of miRNAs and their interactions in the pathogenesis of gynecological malignancies, together with an understanding of the phenotypic variations have considerably improved the management of the diagnosis and personalized treatment for different forms of cancer. In recent years, miRNAs have emerged as signaling molecules in biological pathways involved in different categories of cancer and it has been demonstrated that these molecules could regulate cancer-relevant processes, our focus being on malignancies of the gynecologic tract. The aim of this paper is to summarize novel research ?ndings in the literature regarding the parts that miRNAs play in cancer-relevant processes, speci?cally regarding gynecological malignancy, while emphasizing their pivotal role in the disruption of cancer-related signaling pathways.

Esophageal diverticula: from diagnosis to therapeutic management-narrative review

Adrian Constantin, Silviu Constantinoiu, Florin Achim, Bogdan Socea, Daniel Ovidiu Costea, Dragos Predescu

Summary: Esophageal diverticulum is a rare condition that requires a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and appropriate therapeutic decision-making. Various investigations, including endoscopy and barium swallow, need to be correlated with complex physiological and imaging evaluations for accurate management. Surgical treatment can be challenging due to the risk of complications, and alternative minimally invasive or endoscopic techniques should be explored to improve outcomes.

Study of the Thyroid Profile of Patients with Alopecia

Adelina Popa, Mara Carsote, Dragos Cretoiu, Mihai Cristian Dumitrascu, Claudiu-Eduard Nistor, Florica Sandru

Summary: Thyroid hormones are crucial for the growth and maintenance of hair follicles. This narrative review examines the thyroid profile of patients with different types of alopecia. The presence of autoimmune thyroid diseases suggests a common autoimmune background with alopecia areata (AA). However, routine thyroid screening for AA patients remains controversial. Telogen effluvium (TE) and frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) also show associations with thyroid anomalies, but further research is needed to determine the underlying mechanisms. Overall, a multidisciplinary approach combining trichology and endocrinology is necessary to improve the management of alopecia.

Giant Gallbladder Tumor, Unusual Cancer-Case Report and Short Review of Literature

Adrian Constantin, Florin Achim, Tudor Turcu, Adelina Birceanu, Anca Evsei, Bogdan Socea, Dragos Predescu

Summary: Giant gallbladder is a rare condition, which can result from benign pathology and rarely presents with malignancy. Imaging scans are necessary to evaluate the morphology and loco-regional extension of gallbladder tumors. Although few cases of giant gallbladder cancer have been reported in the literature, this appears to be the largest resectable gallbladder carcinoma reported to date.

Update on the Molecular Pathology of Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Elena-Codruta Cozma, Laura Madalina Banciu, Cristina Soare, Sanda-Maria Cretoiu

Summary: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is a common skin cancer originating from keratinocytes. Multiple risk factors have been identified for the development of cSCC, including UV/ ionizing radiation, chemical carcinogens, immunosuppression, chronic inflammation, viral infections, and genetic alterations. Due to its socio-economic impact and treatment challenges, extensive research has been conducted to understand the molecular mechanisms and advance the therapies for cSCC. This review provides an overview of the molecular, genetic, and epigenetic aspects of cSCC, as well as the treatment methods from conventional to targeted therapies.

Pregnancy and Gastric Cancer: A Narrative Review

Adrian Constantin, Roxana Constantin, Florin Achim, Bogdan Socea, Dragos Predescu

Summary: Cases of digestive cancers diagnosed during pregnancy are rare, but more common in women aged 30-39 years. The diagnosis is difficult due to overlap in symptoms with pregnancy and hesitancy to use invasive investigations. This often leads to late-stage diagnosis and complications. This review focuses on the epidemiology, clinical aspects, paraclinical evaluation, and particularities of diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer during pregnancy.

Pancreaticogastrostomy versus Pancreaticojejunostomy and the Proposal of a New Postoperative Pancreatic Fistula Risk Score

Bogdan Mastalier, Victor Cauni, Constantin Tihon, Marius Septimiu Petrutescu, Bogdan Ghita, Valentin Popescu, Dan Andras, Ion Mircea Radu, Vasile Gabriel Vlasceanu, Marius Florian Floroiu, Cristian Draghici, Cristian Botezatu, Dragos Cretoiu, Valentin Nicolae Varlas, Angela Madalina Lazar

Summary: Despite the decrease in mortality rates, morbidity rates following pancreaticoduodenectomy remain significant, particularly in the case of postoperative pancreatic fistula. The ideal type of pancreatic anastomosis and a consensus on the pancreatic fistula risk prediction score are still lacking. Our study identified several significant predictive factors for postoperative fistula occurrence and found that pancreaticogastrostomy has a lower fistula rate compared to pancreaticojejunostomy in patients with risk factors.

A Catastrophic Biodiversity Loss in the Environment Is Being Replicated on the Skin Microbiome: Is This a Major Contributor to the Chronic Disease Epidemic?

Christopher Wallen-Russell, Nancy Pearlman, Samuel Wallen-Russell, Dragos Cretoiu, Dana Claudia Thompson, Silviu Cristian Voinea, Roberto Di Marco, Matthias Noll

Summary: There is a catastrophic loss of biodiversity in ecosystems worldwide, and a similar crisis is observed in the human gut microbiome. The skin microbiome, despite being a crucial part of the body's systems, is often overlooked. Research has shown that dysbiosis of the skin microbiome is linked to many common skin diseases and potentially even whole-body health problems. Biodiversity loss in the skin microbiome is a major contributor to chronic diseases and understanding the link between ecosystem and human health is crucial.
