Inflammatory Neuropathy Cause and Treatment overall disability score prevalence and determinants of pain in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy: Results from the German INHIBIT registry

Hannah Mork, Jeremias Motte, Anna Lena Fisse, Thomas Grueter, Jil Bruenger, Zornitsa Stoykova, Yesim Bulut, Diamantis Athanasopoulos, Dietrich Sturm, Martin Tegenthoff, Ralf Gold, Elena Enax-Krumova, Kalliopi Pitarokoili

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence, characteristics, and contribution to disability of pain, fatigue, and depression in patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). The results showed that these three factors have a significant impact on the quality of life of patients, and sensory dysfunction is associated with neuropathic pain. Therefore, it is important to consider these factors in therapeutic interventions.

Nerve Echogenicity in Polyneuropathies of Various Etiologies-Results of a Retrospective Semi-Automatic Analysis of High-Resolution Ultrasound Images

Anke Erdmann, Jeremias Motte, Jil Brunger, Thomas Gruter, Ralf Gold, Kalliopi Pitarokoili, Anna Lena Fisse

Summary: The echogenicity of peripheral nerves can provide insight into structural damage in various polyneuropathies. This study compared nerve echogenicity in different types of primarily axonal or demyelinating polyneuropathies and found that patients with progressive CIDP showed significantly higher echogenicity compared to patients with other polyneuropathies. However, the differences were slight and cannot clearly differentiate between each form of polyneuropathy.

Summary: This study investigated the immune cell alterations and immune response in patients receiving early ofatumumab treatment and compared them to healthy controls following SARS-CoV-2 vaccination. The results showed that ofatumumab treatment led to depletion of B cells and changes in certain T cell subpopulations. The humoral immune response to SARS-CoV-2 was impaired, while the cellular immune response was preserved.

The impact of the SARS-CoV-2-pandemic on patients with chronic inflammatory neuropathies: results from the German INHIBIT register

Alina Hieke, Marie Spenner, Fynn Schmitz, Aurelian Schumacher, Maximilian Schroeder, Rafael Klimas, Melissa Sgodzai, Jil Bruenger, Thomas Grueter, Ralf Gold, Kalliopi Pitarokoili, Anna Lena Fisse, Jeremias Motte

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the longitudinal changes in the health care of patients with immune-mediated neuropathies during the COVID-19 pandemic. The health-care situation of patients worsened from 2021 to 2022, possibly due to the international shortage of immunoglobulins during the pandemic and reduced physio/ergotherapy due to lingering regulatory restrictions. Vaccination rate was high in the cohort of patients compared to the general population and CIDP did not seem to be a risk factor for severe SARS-CoV-2 infections.
