The emerging Information and Communication Technology is crucial in electronic agriculture, improving efficiency and quality management of the agri-food supply chain. Adoption factors of blockchain integrated ICTs can influence supply chain actors' decision processes, and potential drivers can be identified through conjoint analysis, helping rationalize a design for supply chain integration and sustainability.
The emerging Information and Communication Technology play a vital role in electronic agriculture. The application of such technologies as blockchain, Internet-of-Things, wireless sensor networks, cloud computing, and machine learning can improve the agri-food supply chain efficiency and quality management. However, there is little evidence on the determinants of blockchain integrated ICTs adoption for the supply chain actors and their propensity to embrace and use such technologies. To bridge this research gap in the literature, we identify a few potential drivers of blockchain technology adoption, considering the grape wine supply chain and employing a rating-based conjoint analysis. The study finds that dis-intermediation, traceability, price, trust, compliance, and coordination and control in order of their relative importance and utilities can influence the supply chain actors' adoption-intention decision processes. The adoption factors further rationalize the design for a modular, scalable, interoperable, and cost-effective architecture for supply chain integration and sustainability. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. Mainstreaming blended finance in climate-smart agriculture: Complementarity, modality, and proximity

Kushankur Dey, Pradeep Kumar Mishra

Summary: Blended finance, as an alternative financing method for the agricultural sector, has yet to be considered as the preferred mechanism by investors and financiers. This study explores the gap in existing literature by examining factors such as governance, actor moral preferences, and institutional complexity. The case study of the Integrated Fish Farming in Odisha, India, reveals reservations among actors regarding blended finance implementation, including procedural restrictions for local banks and unappealing incentive structures for the implementing agency. However, the collaboration between actors based on role complementarities and proximity can contribute to the mainstreaming of blended finance.

Food Corporation of India: Making Public Procurement More Inclusive and Efficient

Avinash Kumar, Kushankur Dey, Kriti Bardhan Gupta

Summary: This case is about enhancing the inclusivity and efficiency of public procurement operations undertaken by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in Uttar Pradesh. The FCI is responsible for the management of minimum support price (MSP)-based public procurement operations, maintenance of buffer stocks for food security, and assisting states in their public distribution systems. Mr Girish Kumar, General Manager of FCI in Uttar Pradesh, received feedback from a brainstorming session where recommendations from a concurrent evaluation study were discussed. He wanted to combine his domain knowledge with insights from the study to design a more inclusive and efficient MSP-based public procurement system.

Summary: This study investigates uncertainty modeling in wind power forecasting using different parametric and non-parametric methods. Johnson's SU distribution is found to outperform Gaussian distributions in predicting wind power. This research contributes to the literature by introducing Johnson's SU distribution as a candidate for probabilistic wind forecasting.

Comparison of ethane recovery processes for lean gas based on a coupled model

Xing Liu, Qiuchen Wang, Yunhao Wen, Long Li, Xinfang Zhang, Yi Wang

Summary: This study analyzes the characteristics of process parameters in three lean gas ethane recovery processes and establishes a prediction and multiobjective optimization model for ethane recovery and system energy consumption. A new method for comparing ethane recovery processes for lean gas is proposed, and the addition of extra coolers improves the ethane recovery. The support vector regression model based on grey wolf optimization demonstrates the highest prediction accuracy, and the multiobjective multiverse optimization algorithm shows the best optimization performance and diversity in the solutions.

A novel deep-learning framework for short-term prediction of cooling load in public buildings

Cairong Song, Haidong Yang, Xian-Bing Meng, Pan Yang, Jianyang Cai, Hao Bao, Kangkang Xu

Summary: The paper proposes a novel deep learning-based prediction framework, aTCN-LSTM, for accurate cooling load predictions. The framework utilizes a gate-controlled multi-head temporal convolutional network and a sparse probabilistic self-attention mechanism with a bidirectional long short-term memory network to capture both temporal and long-term dependencies in the cooling load sequences. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method, which can serve as an effective guide for HVAC chiller scheduling and demand management initiatives.

The impact of social interaction and information acquisition on the adoption of soil and water conservation technology by farmers: Evidence from the Loess Plateau, China

Zhe Chen, Xiaojing Li, Xianli Xia, Jizhou Zhang

Summary: This study uses survey data from the Loess Plateau in China to evaluate the impact of social interaction on the adoption of soil and water conservation (SWC) technology by farmers. The study finds that social interaction increases the likelihood of farmers adopting SWC, and internet use moderates this effect. The positive impact of social interaction on SWC adoption is more pronounced for farmers in larger villages and those who join cooperative societies.
