Summary: The European Union aims to increase the installed capacity of low carbon power plants by 90% by 2030. A spreadsheet model is used to calculate the materials and resources required for new renewable and nuclear power plants, and their CO2e emissions are estimated. Three scenarios are considered for the decade 2020-2030: business as usual, EU manufacture, and circular economy. While circular economy measures reduce resource consumption, they do not significantly reduce carbon emissions. To achieve a circular economy scenario, resource-efficient power plant design and technological advancements in recycling processes are necessary.

Summary: This study identifies two limitations in the research on the effects of economic growth on renewable energy: the use of an aggregate methodology and the absence of systematic search for empirical models. To overcome these limitations, the study proposes a disaggregate analysis and introduces wavelet-based and error-adjusted econometric techniques. The findings reveal significant differences between aggregate growth and growth components in their effects on renewable energy, and demonstrate that the wavelet-based and error-adjusted methods outperform non-wavelet-based tests in predictive accuracy. This suggests prioritizing a disaggregate approach and utilizing wavelet-based and error-adjusted techniques to improve renewable energy policy.

Summary: This study reviews the literature on the impact of climate, land use, and land cover changes on hydropower generation in West Africa. The findings indicate that climate change and variability have affected hydropower plants in the region, but the impact of land use changes on the hydrological system and hydropower generation is less documented. Future projections suggest that water availability for hydropower may decrease due to climate change, but there are also areas where rainfall is projected to increase, leading to favorable conditions for hydropower production. Land use changes, such as intensified agriculture, may increase runoff and generation of hydropower. However, these changes also have adverse effects, such as sedimentation and siltation, which can harm hydropower plants. The study highlights the need for further research on the combined impact of climate and land use changes on hydropower infrastructure in the region.
