Summary: This study assessed the impact of vitamin D levels on the efficacy of vedolizumab therapy in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients. The results showed that higher pre-treatment vitamin D levels predicted significant endoscopic improvement in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC), and improving vitamin D levels significantly lowered C-reactive protein levels in patients with Crohn's disease (CD).

Summary: Inflammatory bowel disease is a chronic inflammation of the GI tract, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, associated with microbiota dysbiosis and vitamin D deficiency. Further studies are needed to explore the mechanisms and therapeutic potential related to vitamin D/VDR in gut microbiota modulation for IBD.

Summary: There is growing evidence of the involvement of vitamin D in immune regulation and gut barrier function, suggesting its critical role in the development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Vitamin D acts as an immunomodulator, alleviating inflammation, and contributing to intestinal homeostasis in IBD, highlighting its potential therapeutic value.

Summary: The study systematically identified ultrasound scoring indices for assessing inflammatory bowel disease activity, with common components including bowel wall thickness, colour Doppler imaging, and bowel wall stratification. The correlation between ultrasound indices and reference standards, as well as sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and other properties, varied within certain ranges. However, reliability and responsiveness data were limited, and most studies were rated with unclear or high risk of bias.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic inflammatory diseases of the digestive tract with periods of remission and relapses. The etiopathogenesis is not fully understood, leading to only symptomatic treatment. There is a constant need to search for new high safety profile therapies for IBD.

Summary: The study found that onset of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in school aged children is not associated with seasonal patterns, but flares may follow a specific monthly pattern. Disease flares are associated with low vitamin D blood levels, while vitamin D deficiency is linked to malnutrition and hypoalbuminemia.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a core outcome set for real-world studies in adult patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Candidate outcomes and outcome measures were identified through a systematic review and a modified Delphi consensus process. The international panel agreed on the final core outcome set, which will facilitate the synthesis and generation of real-world evidence.

Summary: The SPIRIT consensus group has agreed that the ultimate therapeutic goal in both CD and UC is to prevent disease impact on patients' lives, including health-related quality of life, disability, and fecal incontinence, as well as prevent complications in the short and long term, such as bowel damage, surgeries, disease extension, extraintestinal manifestations, and dysplasia or cancer. These recommendations will need to be validated in clinical studies before being implemented in disease-modification trials.

Summary: This retrospective observational study analyzed the cost of endoscopic resection and surgical resection for submucosal colorectal cancer. The study found that endoscopic resection had a lower total cumulative cost and comparable oncologic outcomes as surgical resection. Therefore, endoscopic resection can be considered a cost-effective option for initial treatment of submucosal colorectal cancer.

Summary: This study investigated the transcriptional profile and compositional features of creeping fat (CF) in Crohn's disease (CD). The results showed that CF in CD patients had a large number of genes related to immune cell responses, while genes with a decremental pattern were associated with cell migration. Cell analysis revealed significant changes in cellular composition between CD-CF and Con-MAT groups.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy, tolerability, and safety of mini-OST and conventional OST. The results showed that there were no significant differences in preparation efficacy, satisfaction, and tolerability between the two groups. The first bowel movement occurred earlier in the mini-OST group. The occurrence of adverse events was comparable between the two groups. In conclusion, mini-OST showed similar efficacy, tolerability, and safety compared to conventional OST.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of stenting-related factors, including endoscopists' expertise, on clinical outcomes after bridge-to-surgery (BTS) stenting for obstructive colorectal cancer (CRC). The results showed that the expertise of endoscopists was associated with better short-term outcomes, including high stenting success rate and low rate of stent-related complications after BTS stenting. The interval between stenting and surgery also played a role in postoperative complications.

Summary: A web-based survey was conducted to evaluate the current treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Asian countries/regions. The results showed that anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) agents, anti-integrins, and anti-interleukin-12/23 agents were commonly used in Asian countries/regions. Treatment strategies were mostly similar among Asian doctors, but it is important to identify the most appropriate therapeutic strategy for Asian IBD patients.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the expression of multiple peptide hormones in rectal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) and their clinical and prognostic implications. The results showed that several peptide hormones were expressed in rectal NETs, and tumors expressing serotonin or somatostatin were associated with lymphovascular invasion, chromogranin A expression, and shorter disease-free survival. The peptide hormonal expression status can classify rectal NETs into L-cell, enterochromaffin-cell, D-cell, null-expression, or mixed-expression type.
