Summary: This study found that overexpression of RSK2 in melanoma leads to resistance to vemurafenib therapy and is associated with poor overall survival in melanoma patients. In addition, the inhibition of RSK2 can suppress melanoma cell proliferation and enhance sensitivity to vemurafenib.

Summary: This study demonstrates that mechanical force can induce macrophage proliferation in periodontal tissue and orthodontic tooth movement. The mechanosensory ion channel Piezo1 plays a crucial role in mediating the response of macrophages to mechanical stimuli and promotes their proliferation. The Piezo1-AKT-Ccnd1 axis is identified as an important mechanism in regulating macrophage proliferation during orthodontic tooth movement.

Summary: MYO1B expression is increased in ESCC and correlated with tumor stage, TNM stage, and poor outcomes. Depletion of MYO1B impairs oncogenesis and enhances chemosensitivity in ESCC. SNAI2 is a downstream effector of MYO1B, and suppression of MYO1B downregulates SNAI2 expression and inhibits the SNAI2/cyclin D1 pathway.

Summary: This study investigated the role of CDC42EP3 in glioma development and its potential downstream mechanism. It was found that CDC42EP3 overexpression was positively correlated with pathological grading and increased the risk of recurrence. Knocking down CDC42EP3 inhibited cell proliferation and migration while promoting apoptosis. The study also suggested that CDC42EP3 might regulate the expression of CCND1. Overall, CDC42EP3 was found to promote glioma progression through targeting CCND1.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the mechanism of the beneficial effect of crocin in lung cancer cells. The results showed that crocin inhibited the biological functions of lung cancer cells by inhibiting 0-catenin gene and downstream genes. Moreover, crocin offset the enhancing effects of overexpressed 0-catenin upon the abilities of lung cancer cells to migrate and invade.

Summary: The iron chelator deferasirox shows anti-tumor effects in MCL cells by inducing ROS, oxidative stress, and DNA damage to trigger CD1 proteolysis, while also mediating CD1 proteolysis by inhibiting the PI3K/AKT/GSK3 beta pathway. These findings suggest that deferasirox could be a potential therapeutic option for MCL patients.

Summary: Tumor-associated macrophages play a significant role in the tumor microenvironment, affecting tumor development and resistance to anti-cancer drugs through cytokine and growth factor production. In this study, a hybrid spheroid model of canine mammary gland tumor cells and macrophages was established, which reflects the hypoxic tumor microenvironment and demonstrates that macrophages can induce anti-cancer drug resistance in canine tumor cells.

Summary: The study found that bortezomib inhibits the ubiquitin-proteasome machinery, leading to downregulation of cyclin D1 and induction of p53 and p21, showing anti-proliferative effects on KIT-independent GIST cells. Additionally, bortezomib also downregulated cyclin D1 and YAP/TAZ, increased cleaved PARP expression, induced p53 and p21 expression, and led to apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, decreased cell viability, colony formation, as well as migration and invasiveness in KIT-independent GIST cell lines GIST48B, GIST54, and GIST226.

Summary: This study evaluated opioid prescribing patterns, consumption, and pain patterns following benign oropharyngeal surgery in adult patients. Findings revealed a significant amount of unused opioids, and a prescription of approximately 225 morphine milligram equivalents provided appropriate analgesia, but larger initial prescriptions may lead to increased opioid consumption without reducing refill requests.

Summary: The alpha V beta 6 integrin is upregulated during prostate cancer progression and specifically expressed in androgen receptor-negative tumors. By delivering ITGB6-targeting siRNAs into PrCa cells using sEVs, the expression of beta 6 subunit can be downregulated, leading to reduced cell adhesion and migration in PrCa cells.

Summary: The study found that in liver transplantation, NASH patients with macrosteatotic allografts had similar survival rates up to 10 years compared to non-NASH patients. However, NASH patients with allografts with >= 30% macrosteatosis may experience reduced early survival rates, but long-term survival rates are similar to other allografts.

Summary: The study reveals that many human tumors have reduced levels of Mic60, an essential scaffold of mitochondrial structure, which leads to the disruption of mitochondrial integrity. Surprisingly, these tumors show decreased cell proliferation, resistance to cell death, and activation of a gene expression program related to innate immunity and cytokine/chemokine signaling. This process induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition, tumor cell movement, and promotes metastatic dissemination.

Summary: This study evaluated the incidence of marginal ulcers (MUs) after primary and secondary Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB). The results showed that patients who underwent conversion of Sleeve Gastrectomy to RYGB had a higher incidence of MUs compared to those who had primary RYGB or Gastric Banding to RYGB. Furthermore, the time to MU development was significantly shorter in patients who underwent conversion surgery.

Summary: Despite therapeutic advances in prostate cancer treatment, metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer remains a challenge. Highly expressed proteins STEAP1-4 have been identified as significant drivers of prostate cancer aggressiveness and metastasis. However, their other biological functions and understanding of heterotrimers and homotrimers are limited. This review highlights the importance of further research on the role of STEAP1-4 in prostate cancer and their potential clinical applications.

Summary: The objective of this study was to identify novel signaling pathways and biomarkers associated with chordoma using a large tumor bank. Clinical and pathologic data were collected from 73 patients, and tumor microarrays were constructed from 61 chordoma specimens. The study found that higher expression of TOMM20 was associated with recurrent and metastatic chordomas. TIGAR and TOMM20 expressions were significantly higher in primary lesions, and a TOMM20 composite score of 3 or higher decreased overall and recurrence-free survival.
