Summary: In a multicenter study of Fabry patients and healthy controls, blood-correction of myocardial native T1 was found to increase the number of patients with low T1 and reclassify them as having cardiac involvement. This blood-correction may potentially allow for earlier detection and therapy initiation.

Summary: The study found that PDGFR beta-PKC alpha signaling is repressed by BRCA1, which establishes PDGFR beta-PKC alpha signaling as a therapeutic target for BRCA1-deficient breast cancers. Targeted deletion of Pdgfr beta in Brca1-deficient tumor cells promoted cell death, induced mesenchymal-to-epithelial transition, and suppressed tumor progression, providing potential new therapeutic strategies for this aggressive breast cancer subtype.

Summary: The study investigated the independent association of fluid balance during the first 72 hours of continuous renal replacement therapy with hospital mortality in critically ill patients with AKI. The results indicated that fluid balance during CRRT is independently associated with hospital mortality even after adjusting for disease severity measures.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in the outcomes of growth hormone replacement therapy (GHRT) between growth hormone deficient (GHD) men and women. The results showed that women were more likely to have subnormal insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels during treatment and experienced more adverse events, requiring dose reduction or temporary stoppage of GHRT. Men had a higher risk of developing malignant neoplasms. This suggests that women with GHD may not be receiving optimal treatment and have lower tolerability of GHRT, but it does not imply discontinuation of treatment.

Summary: The primary sensing of dietary methionine restriction (MR) occurs in the liver, where it activates multiple transcriptional programs that mediate various biological components of the response. While the transcription factor Nfe2l2 is activated by MR, its role in mediating the metabolic effects of dietary MR appears to be non-essential. The hepatic transcriptome responses to MR are largely independent of Nfe2l2, with only minor differences observed in specific metabolic pathways.

Summary: Loss of function mutations in the gene encoding dystrophin elicits a hypersensitive fear response in mice and humans. In the dystrophin-deficient mdx mouse, this behaviour is partially protected by oestrogen, but the mechanistic basis for this protection is unknown. Female mdx mice remain normotensive during restraint stress compared to male mdx and male/female wildtype mice. Partial dystrophin expression in female mdx mice (heterozygous) also elicited a hypertensive response. Ovariectomized (OVX) female mdx mice were used to explain the normotensive response to stress. OVX lowered skeletal muscle mass and adrenal mass and dampened aldosterone synthesis in female mdx mice. These data suggest that oestrogen partially attenuates the unconditioned fear response in mdx mice via adrenal and vascular function.

Summary: The study found that anogenital distance (AGD) is shorter in testicular cancer survivors compared to men from the general population, and that AGD is not affected by testosterone replacement therapy in adulthood. This supports the hypothesis that reduced AGD is part of the testicular dysgenesis syndrome and may be a marker of disrupted foetal testicular development.

Summary: It is uncertain whether aging before late adulthood and menopause are associated with fat-free mass and fat mass-adjusted resting energy expenditure (REEadj). This study found that there is a significant difference in REEadj between middle-aged and younger women, as well as between middle-aged women with different menopausal statuses. The study also demonstrated that menopause may not contribute to the decline in REEadj in women.

Summary: The study investigated the microstructure, physicochemical properties, and adsorption capacities of deoiled red raspberry pomace (DRP) and its total dietary fiber (DRPF) to evaluate their potential use as functional food ingredients. The chemical composition showed that both DRP and DRPF are mainly composed of lignin. While DRP exhibited higher in vitro cholesterol and glucose adsorption capacities, DRPF showed better adsorption capacity of toxic ions, indicating that both are ideal supplements for dietary fiber with different strengths in specific applications.

Summary: The small molecule SW016789 has time-dependent effects on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and function in pancreatic islet beta cells. Acute treatment enhances insulin secretion, while chronic exposure transiently induces ER stress and inhibits secretory function in a reversible manner. SW016789 acts upstream of voltage-dependent calcium channels and potentiates nutrient-induced calcium influx.

Summary: This study investigated pancreatic intraductal pressure in various mouse models of acute and chronic pancreatitis. The results showed that elevated intraductal pressure was observed in both normal saline and radiocontrast infusion groups, and the increase was positively correlated with the viscosity of the solution. In obstructive pancreatitis models, a rise in intraductal pressure was observed in both acute and chronic pancreatitis. In non-obstructive pancreatitis models, a rise in intraductal pressure was only observed in chronic pancreatitis, but not acute pancreatitis.

Summary: Animals that consume fermenting fruit and nectar are at risk of exposure to ethanol and the detrimental effects of inebriation. This report demonstrates that the hormone FGF21 plays a role in stimulating arousal from intoxication without affecting ethanol metabolism. FGF21 activates noradrenergic neurons in the locus coeruleus region, suggesting that it could be targeted pharmacologically for treating acute alcohol poisoning.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the characteristics, co-risk factors, and reliability of the Naranjo scoring system for drug-associated acute pancreatitis (DAP) in children with acute recurrent pancreatitis (ARP) and chronic pancreatitis (CP). The results showed that medications were involved in 7% of ARP or CP patients in the INSPPIRE-2 cohort, with most patients having other risk factors for pancreatitis. The Naranjo scoring system raised questions about its reliability for DAP.
