Summary: The study found higher levels of IL-9, IL-10, and IL-17 in PBMC supernatants of patients with advanced hepatic fibrosis, with direct correlations to spleen sizes and portal vein diameters. Patients with the CD209 rs2287886 AG polymorphism produced higher levels of IL-17, suggesting a role of these cytokines in the immunopathogenesis of advanced fibrosis in human schistosomiasis.

Summary: Gastric cancer is common in China and has a high mortality rate. The development of gastric cancer is influenced by genetic and environmental factors. FAK, a protein kinase, is highly expressed in cancer and plays a role in promoting cancer cell proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis. IL-8, which is upregulated in many types of malignant tumors, also affects the proliferation, migration, invasion, angiogenesis, and EMT of cancer cells. This study found that FAK is essential for the proliferation, migration, and peritoneal metastasis of gastric cancer cells, and that IL-8 activates FAK activity. The IL-8-FAK-IL-8 positive feedback loop plays a role in the proliferation and migration of gastric cancer cells.

Summary: Aberrations in glycan and lectin expression and function contribute to the development of cancer. This study focused on Galectin-9, a member of the beta-galactoside-binding lectin family, and investigated its role in breast cancer cell invasiveness. The results showed a correlation between Galectin-9 expression and the ability of invasive cancer cells to adhere and invade extracellular matrix microenvironments. Further experiments revealed that Galectin-9 induced Focal Adhesion Kinase activity and S100A4 expression, which are associated with cancer cell invasion. The findings provide crucial insights into the mechanisms by which elevated Galectin-9 expression enhances breast cancer cell invasiveness during the early stages of invasion.

Summary: MicroRNA-1290 (miR-1290) is highly expressed in hyperlipidemia patients and can promote cell adhesion, regulate cell proliferation, and inhibit inflammatory response in HUVECs mediated by IL-8. Mechanistically, miR-1290 directly targets GSK-3 beta, which may provide a potential target for atherosclerosis treatment.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of IDH1 hyperacetylation on the acidic microenvironment in colorectal cancer (CRC). The results show that increased alpha-KG affects the hydroxylation of Ago2 and mediates miR-9-5p targeting NHE1 protein. Knockdown of NHE1 inhibits CRC cell proliferation and migration by restricting intracellular H+ transport. This study reveals a novel mechanism through which IDH1 deacetylation regulates the cellular acidic microenvironment and inhibits CRC metastasis.
