Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of thermotherapy combined with a copper pesticide alternative in controlling Fusarium rot in melons. The lowest concentration of cinnamon essential oil showed the best results in inhibiting fungal growth. In vivo experiments demonstrated that the combination of thermotherapy and the copper pesticide greatly reduced melon rot and minimized damage caused by the disease.

Summary: This study characterized 25 representative isolates of the Fusarium solani species complex (FSSC) from melon in Iran. Pathogenicity assays showed that these isolates were pathogenic on different varieties of melon and other cucurbits. Based on morphological characteristics and genetic analysis, four different species were identified, with N. falciformis being the most numerous. This is the first report of N. pisi causing wilt and root rot disease in melon.

Summary: Current research highlights the positive effects of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) and selenium (Se) in reducing arsenic (As) toxicity in Cucumis melo plants. The application of IONPs or Se alone improved plant growth and physiological parameters. The combined treatment of IONPs and Se enhanced the activity of antioxidative enzymes and reduced As uptake. Additionally, this treatment regulated gene expression related to oxidative stress in plants.

Summary: This study explores the correlation between antioxidant enzyme activities and total phenol content with FOM 1.2 infection in melons. The results reveal that the activity of defense-related enzymes increases threefold in resistant melon accessions compared to susceptible ones. Biomass growth parameters following inoculation show similar trends to enzyme activity in resistant melon accessions.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of environmental factors and pathogenicity of different Fusarium species on the development of melon rot. In addition, the sensitivity of these species to various fungicides was assessed. The results indicated optimal temperature and pH ranges for fungal growth, as well as the pathogenicity of all species to melon plants and fruit. Some species showed high sensitivity to certain fungicides, potentially providing management strategies for melon diseases caused by Fusarium spp.

Summary: Coffee wilt disease is a serious threat to small-scale farmers in Ethiopia, and there are currently no effective control measures available. This study developed and evaluated biofungicides derived from Trichoderma species against the causative agent of the disease. The results showed that T. asperellum AU131 and T. longibrachiatum AU158 have high biocontrol efficacy.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of electrostatic atomized water particles (EAWPs) on the disease resistance and postharvest quality of muskmelon fruits against postharvest fruit rot caused by F. incarnatum. The results showed that EAWP treatment for 30 minutes prior to pathogen inoculation limited disease progress and upregulated the expression of cell-wall-degrading enzyme genes in muskmelon fruits. Additionally, EAWP treatment preserved the postharvest quality of muskmelon fruits.

Summary: Banana Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense is a disastrous fungal disease. Strain WHL7 of Streptomyces sp. isolated from marine soft coral showed high antifungal activity against Foc TR4. Fermentation broth of Streptomyces sp. WHL7 significantly increased the resistance of banana plantlets to Foc TR4, making it a potential bioresource for controlling Foc TR4.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the biocontrol efficacy of mango fruit decay by adjusting the doses of a biocontrol agent (BCA) formulation. The results showed that different doses of yeast strains had significant differences in control efficiency. Additionally, using BCA at the fruit onset and when fruits achieved egg size resulted in lower fruit rot incidence and severity.

Summary: This study evaluated the infection effectiveness of entomopathogenic fungi and nematodes on pupae of the Mediterranean fruit fly in the soil. The results showed that simultaneous application of Heterorhabitidis bacteriophora and Steinernema carpocapsae achieved the highest mortality rate of pupae. In greenhouse conditions, the combination of S. carpocapsae and the virulent strain B. bassiana LCB289 had a significant impact on controlling the fruit fly. These findings have important implications for the control of the Mediterranean fruit fly.
