Summary: This retrospective study investigated the accuracy of ultrasound in diagnosing and identifying the cause of intestinal obstruction in neonates. The results showed that the accuracy of ultrasound diagnosis of intestinal obstruction was 91%, and the accuracy of ultrasound etiological diagnosis was 84%. Ultrasound can effectively show the manifestations of intestinal obstruction and provide valuable information for diagnosis and identification.

Summary: This study reviewed the literature on prenatal diagnosis of foetal volvulus, focusing on prenatal imaging, pregnancy characteristics, and clinical outcomes. The study found that foetal volvulus is a rare condition with high rates of preterm birth and perinatal mortality. The most common sonographic finding is bowel and/or gastric dilatation.

Summary: This study retrospectively compared the outcomes of primary repair (PR) and staged repair (SR) in neonates with tetralogy of Fallot and pulmonary atresia (TOF/PA). The results showed that SR was more common in higher-risk patients. The mortality rate was similar between SR and PR, but PR had advantages in perioperative morbidities, reintervention rates, and right pulmonary artery growth, while SR allowed for larger initial conduit implantation.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of apple peel polyphenol (APP) on intestinal ecology and found that APP enhanced the mechanical barrier function, regulated the immune barrier, promoted the growth of beneficial bacteria, and increased the diversity of intestinal flora. These results suggest that APP can alleviate intestinal inflammation and epithelial damage, and play a positive role in regulating intestinal ecology.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the incidence and risk factors for late severe intestinal complications after surgical repair for intra-abdominal congenital intestinal atresia/stenosis. The results showed that patients with intestinal atresia/stenosis located on the anal side of the ligament of Treitz and those with high-risk types of atresia/stenosis were more prone to develop late intestinal complications.

Summary: This study aimed to comprehensively analyze multiple factors affecting complete enteral nutrition after primary anastomosis and establish a convenient prediction model. The results revealed that gestational age, meconium peritonitis, distance from the anastomosis to the ileocecal region, diameter ratio of proximal to distal bowels, and time of initial feeding were the predictors of enteral nutrition. The prediction model demonstrated good accuracy and applicability.

Summary: This article presents a rare case of coexisting intestinal nonrotation and cecal volvulus. Diagnostic imaging played a crucial role in identification and surgical intervention. The patient underwent laparotomy and right hemicolectomy with a favorable postoperative course. This case highlights the challenges in diagnosing and managing these rare conditions, calling for further studies to optimize management strategies.

Summary: Delayed diagnosis and accurate assessment of disease severity are crucial for improving the prognosis of neonatal midgut volvulus. This study developed a nomogram model that effectively predicts the risk of intestinal ischemia and necrosis in neonates with midgut volvulus. Analyzing retrospective clinical data, six independent predictors were identified and used to establish a reliable nomogram model.

Summary: Intestinal atresia is an under-diagnosed congenital defect in cattle, and limited information is available on its incidence and risk factors. A study conducted on 39 dairy farms over 8 years identified an incidence of 0.35% among 56,454 calves born, with the majority occluding the jejunum. The defect was more common in male calves, progeny of older cows, and had a significant association with year and farm of birth.
