Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1)-induced angiogenesis has been involved in numerous pathological conditions, and it may be harmful or beneficial depending on the types of diseases. Exploration on angiogenesis has sparked hopes in providing novel therapeutic approaches on multiple diseases with high mortality rates, such as cancer and ischemic stroke. The HIF-1 pathway is considered to be a major regulator of angiogenesis. HIF-1 seems to be involved in the vascular formation process by synergistic correlations with other proangiogenic factors in cancer and cerebrovascular disease. The regulation of HIF-1-dependent angiogenesis is related to the modulation of HIF-1 bioactivity by regulating HIF-1 alpha transcription or protein translation, HIF-1 alpha DNA binding, HIF-1 alpha and HIF-1 alpha dimerization, and HIF-1 degradation. Traditional Chinese herbal medicines have a long history of clinical use in both cancer and stroke treatments in Asia. Growing evidence has demonstrated potential proangiogenic benefits of Chinese herbal medicines in ischemic stroke, whereas tumor angiogenesis could be inhibited by the active components in Chinese herbal medicines. The objective of this review is to provide comprehensive insight on the effects of Chinese herbal medicines on angiogenesis by regulating HIF-1 pathways in both cancer and ischemic stroke.

Does a Help Giver Seek the Help from Others? The Consistency and Licensing Mechanisms and the Role of Leader Respect

Summary: This study explores the shift of roles from help giver to help seeker among employees by investigating their help-giving and following help-seeking behavior. The study proposes two contradictory psychological processes, consistency and licensing, for employees to determine whether to seek help after giving help. The study differentiates between autonomous help-seeking and dependent help-seeking and suggests that help-giving has a stronger effect on dependent help-seeking. Leader respect is identified as a moderator to solve the opposite effects of help-giving on subsequent help-seeking. The results show that the negative (positive) relationship between help-giving and dependent help-seeking is mediated by personal reputation and reputation maintenance concerns, while the results regarding autonomous help-seeking are inconsistent. Leader respect weakens the positive relationship between help-giving and autonomous help-seeking in one study and strengthens the negative relationship in two studies. The study discusses theoretical implications for helping literature, self-regulation theory, and moral behavior research.

One-stage explicit trigonometric integrators for effectively solving quasilinear wave equations

Summary: In this paper, one-stage explicit trigonometric integrators for solving quasilinear wave equations are formulated and studied. The trigonometric integrators are used as the semidiscretization in time, while a spectral Galerkin method is employed for the discretization in space. It is shown that these integrators have second-order convergence in time and the result holds for the fully discrete scheme without requiring any CFL-type coupling.

Effect of Heat Flux Distribution on Entropy Generation and Irreversibility of Lead-Bismuth Eutectic (LBE) Forced Convective Heat Transfer

Summary: This study investigates the entropy generation and thermal irreversibility analysis of liquid lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) in an annular pipe. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique is used to study the convective heat transfer performance. The results indicate that the best thermodynamic performance occurs under parabolic distributed heat flux.

Model predictive control-based compound control strategy for ducted rockets gas flow with anti-regulation suppression

Summary: A model predictive control (MPC)-based compound control algorithm is proposed to suppress the anti-regulation characteristics of variable flow ducted rockets. A mathematical model is developed to analyze the anti-regulation, and a fused feedback variable is constructed to accurately predict the gas flow and the anti-regulation. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves superior performance compared to previous methods in balancing the response rate and the anti-regulation of gas flow systems.

Decomposition of Nb3Si and mechanical-property improvement by adding appropriate amount of MgO in Nb-16Si-20Ti alloy

Summary: Five Nb-16Si-20Ti-xMgO alloys were prepared, and the effect of MgO addition on their phase composition, microstructure evolution, and mechanical properties was examined. The results showed that MgO reacted with the Nb-Si-Ti alloy, leading to the substitution of Nb atoms by Mg atoms in the Nbss phase. The addition of 3.0 at% MgO transformed the hypoeutectic alloy into a hypereutectic alloy and resulted in a fine Nbss/alpha-Nb5Si3 eutectic structure. The Nb-16Si-20Ti-3MgO alloy exhibited the highest fracture toughness and compressive strength due to its Nbss phase content and Nbss/alpha-Nb5Si3 eutectic structure.

Efficacy on gait and posture control after botulinum toxin A injection for lower-limb spasticity treatment after stroke: A randomized controlled trial

Closed-Loop Fault Diagnosis of SDR Using Gap Metric, PCA, and Kalman's Principle

Summary: This paper investigates the fault detection and isolation of pressure sensors in gas generators with double pressure feedback. Firstly, a Consistency Index is constructed based on the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) algorithm to evaluate the consistency of measured values. Secondly, the redundancy information of the system is used to estimate the pressure in the gas generator using Kalman's principle. Finally, the gap metric between measured pressure and estimated pressure is employed to characterize the health of the sensors.

Effect of different molding pressures on the properties of glass fiber/molybdenum disulfide/Polytetrafluoroethylene composites

Summary: GF/MoS2/PTFE composites were produced with different molding pressures (50-70 MPa), and their mechanical and tribological properties were evaluated. The results showed that the properties of the composites varied depending on the molding pressure. At a molding pressure of 50 MPa, the composites displayed the best mechanical properties. The lowest wear rate and friction coefficient were observed at molding pressures of 60 MPa and 70 MPa, respectively. SEM analysis suggested that increased molding pressure led to greater residual stresses and surface furrows.

Molecular dynamics simulation on crystal defects of single-crystal silicon during elliptical vibration cutting

Summary: This paper explores the formation mechanism of crystal defects in single-crystal silicon during elliptical vibration cutting (EVC) using molecular dynamics simulation. The study finds that the cutting stage in EVC greatly influences the surface morphology, including elastic recovery and side flow. The preferred slip motion during subsurface damage formation is distinct in the extrusion and shear stage. The influence of cutting temperature and speed on crystal defects formation is also investigated, revealing the increase in proportion of Shockley partial dislocations at elevated temperature and the suppression of crystal defects generation with higher speed ratio.

Two high-order energy-preserving and symmetric Gauss collocation integrators for solving the hyperbolic Hamiltonian systems?

Summary: In this paper, an energy-preserving collocation integrator is derived for solving hyperbolic Hamiltonian systems. Two specific high-order energy-preserving and symmetric integrators are presented by choosing collocation nodes as two and three Gauss-Legendre points, respectively. The convergence and symmetry of the constructed energy-preserving integrators are rigorously analyzed. Numerical results confirm the energy conservation property and accuracy of the proposed integrators.

DOIDS: An Intrusion Detection Scheme Based on DBSCAN for Opportunistic Routing in Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks

Summary: This paper proposes a DOIDS (Opportunistic Routing Intrusion Detection Scheme) based on the DBSCAN clustering algorithm for detecting routing attacks in UWSNs. By collecting energy consumption, forwarding, and link quality information as feature values and using the DBSCAN clustering algorithm to detect potential abnormal nodes. Finally, a decision function is defined according to the time decay function to determine whether the potential abnormal node is malicious.

Implication of electrification and power decarbonization in low-carbon transition pathways for China, the US and the EU

Summary: Electrification and power decarbonization are important for low-carbon energy transition, but their combined effects on CO2 emissions have not been fully understood. This study uses the LMDI model to analyze the effects of electrification and power decarbonization on CO2 emissions in China, the U.S., and the EU between 1997 and 2020. The results show that electrification and power decarbonization played a significant role in reducing CO2 emissions in these regions. However, there are differences in the driving factors of electrification and power decarbonization across the three regions. The study also suggests measures to accelerate electrification in the U.S. and the EU to achieve their 2030 climate targets.
