Summary: In this study, a strain of Riemerella anatipestifer with cross-agglutination ability was discovered, and it was found that a gene on its capsular polysaccharide synthesis gene cluster is associated with capsule synthesis. It was concluded that capsular polysaccharide is the specific antigen that determines the serotype of R. anatipestifer.

Summary: The study confirmed that the B739_0832 protein contributes to the virulence of Riemerella anatipestifer CH-1 by affecting the survival rate of infected ducklings and the bacterial load in various tissues. Deleting B739_0832 resulted in a higher survival rate and reduced bacterial load, indicating its importance in the pathogenesis of the bacterium.

Summary: This study elucidated the role of a novel carbapenem-hydrolysing class D beta-lactamase RAD-1 from Riemerella anatipestifer. The RAD-1 enzyme showed distinct characteristics from other class D beta-lactamase and was widely prevalent and conserved in R. anatipestifer. Expression of RAD-1 in E. coli resulted in increased resistance to various beta-lactam antibiotics.

Summary: The study identified 26 new variants of the tigecycline resistance gene tet(X) from the poultry pathogen Riemerella anatipestifer, expanding the current family extensively. R. anatipestifer is shown to be a natural reservoir for tet(X), with varied copies of tet(X) progenitors on its chromosome. A potential progenitor of tet(X), Tet(X2/4)-P, was characterized to show intermediate tigecycline resistance.

Summary: This study discovered two integrated genomic islands in Riemerella anatipestifer and investigated their relationship with the RAP44 phage genome. It was found that the phage genome was integrated into the R. anatipestifer chromosome, and comparative analysis revealed an evolutionary relationship between them. Additionally, the integrated defective phage sequence exhibited the functions of integration, excision, and cyclization automatically.

Summary: Duck infectious serositis is a serious disease that causes economic losses to the global duck industry. In this study, the virulence of the R. anatipestifer YMAphoP strain was significantly reduced, and ducks immunized with this strain showed 100% protection rate. These findings indicate that the R. anatipestifer YMA-phoP strain could be a potential candidate for the development of a gene deletion activated vaccine against duck infectious serositis.

Summary: This study identified intracellular metabolites in different serotypes of R. anatipestifer using GC-MS, showing differences in metabolite abundance between serotypes. By constructing large-scale metabolic models and combining transcriptomic and metabolomic data, changes in purine metabolism were explained. The research demonstrated the possibility of detecting and differentiating between these two organisms based on their intracellular metabolites.

Summary: A suspected Lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) infection was reported in a mixed farm of yak and cattle in Sichuan Province, China. The virus was detected in clinical samples and was found to be highly homologous to a novel vaccine-related recombinant LSDV. The study suggests that recombinant LSDV can cause high mortality in yaks, and transmission may be facilitated by the Culex tritaeniorhynchus Giles mosquito.
