Bi2MoO6 is a bismuth-based multi-element photocatalyst with good visible light response due to its narrow band gap. However, its high photogenerated electron-hole recombination rate limits its application as a photocatalyst. In this work, visible-light-driven MoS2/Bi2MoO6 composite photocatalyst was successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The composite containing 1% MoS2 exhibited the best photodegradability and good cycling stability. The apparent reaction rate constant for the 1% MoS2 decorated Bi2MoO6 (0.03625) was about 2 times higher than that of pure Bi2MoO6 (0.01913). As a non-precious metal promoter, MoS2 promoted the carrier-separation efficiency and improved the absorption of visible light, which resulted in the enhancement of photocatalytic activity of the composite catalyst.
