Summary: Seasonal-trend decomposition is a fundamental concept in time series analysis, but existing methods are not efficient for real-time analysis. In this paper, we propose OneShotSTL, an algorithm that can decompose time series online with high efficiency and accuracy. OneShotSTL is more than 1,000 times faster than batch methods and achieves comparable or even better accuracy. Experimental results on benchmark datasets demonstrate its superiority.

Summary: Excitation-emission matrix fluorescence (EEMF) spectroscopy is a simple and sensitive analytical technique that requires chemometric techniques like partial least square (PLS) analysis to build robust calibration models. The objective of the PLS algorithm is to explain maximum variation of the spectral and concentration data matrices and to maximize the correlation between them. The application of a suitable variable selection technique can significantly improve the performance of PLS calibration model.

Summary: The determination of trace levels of cadmium in soils using a handheld X-ray fluorescence analyzer is hindered by the spectrum baseline. To improve the analysis, the researchers optimized the filter structure, material, and thickness and proposed a variable selection approach called rieCARS. They also used a Tungsten anode target and a combined filter of Cu and Fe to eliminate interference. The developed analytical procedure showed improved performance in the calibration model for trace Cd and has the potential to analyze heavy metal pollution in soils and assess ecological sustainability.

Summary: In this study, seven lindenane-type sesquiterpenoid trimers were isolated from Chloranthus fortunei. Four of them were new compounds, while the other three were known analogues. Their structures and absolute configurations were determined using various analytical techniques. Compound 1 exhibited a unique feature of two lindenane units connected by a C-15-C-15' bond. Compound 2 had a 5/7/5-fused ring system, which was believed to be formed through keto-enol tautomerism and Cope rearrangement. Compounds 3-6 were derived from trishizukaol A (7) via vinylcyclopropane rearrangement. The biomimetic conversion from 7 to 3-6 was successfully achieved. Compound 1-7 showed anti-inflammatory activity with IC50 values ranging from 2.90 to 22.80 nmol/L.

Summary: Nowadays, food hydrogels are widely used in food processing to deliver functional components. Mesona chinensis Benth polysaccharides (MCBP), the main compounds of Mesona chinensis Benth, have been developed as stabilizers, coagulants, and binders in the food industry. However, MCBP needs to interact with other biomacromolecules to form hydrogels due to the insufficient viscosity of single MCBP solution. Researchers have prepared novel composite hydrogels by interacting MCBP with different polysaccharides. The addition of these polysaccharides significantly affects the properties of MCBP, such as pasting, gelling, textural, rheological, thermal, retrogradation, color, optical, and in vitro digestible properties. The physicochemical properties of composite hydrogels are greatly influenced by treatments like heat, urea, alkali, and salt ions, which affect the interactions between two polysaccharides. Overall, MCBP shows great potential for the development of novel functional hydrogels in the future.

Summary: In this study, an industrial information integrated strategy was proposed to address the OQC evaluation issue of Chinese meteria medica (CMM) from multi-batch in the complex system of big honeyed pill. The strategy consisted of a two-step digital process control and an OQC diagnosis strategy. The two-step digital control utilized online near infrared (NIR) monitoring to acquire critical quality attributes (CQAs) and control consistency from honey refining to He-Tuo procedure. The OQC diagnosis strategy utilized data fusion approach to determine multi-batch OQC from different perspectives. The information integrated strategy successfully identified three abnormal samples out of 30 batches with weights of 27.82%, 44.60%, and 27.58% for NIR, mid-infrared (MIR), and texture technologies, respectively. The diagnosed samples were also tested using zebrafish efficacy as an in vivo test, which demonstrated the effectiveness of the OQC diagnosis strategy. Overall, the proposed information integrated strategy provides important theoretical and practical foundations for ensuring the overall quality of multi-batch CMM, especially for digital and intelligent industrialization.

Batch adsorption studies were conducted to analyze the adsorption competency of MRBC on two dyes, methylene blue (MB) and basic fuchsin (BF), either in individual solutions or binary combinations. The results showed that MRBC was capable of effectively removing a high percentage of both dyes. However, the adsorption capacity decreased when the dyes were combined. Summary: Raman spectroscopy is commonly used for studying glassy materials in cultural heritage, but it is more difficult to interpret the spectra and apply the technique with portable instruments. In contrast, diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) can be used in archaeometric investigations as it is portable and non-invasive. However, there is limited application of this technique to historical glasses. This exploratory work demonstrates the potential of DRIFTS, in combination with portable X-ray Fluorescence (pXRF) and EDS microanalyses, for studying the composition and alteration of glass samples in cultural heritage.
