The optical, radioluminescence and thermoluminescence properties of Eu-doped BaSi2O5 glass ceramics were evaluated. The glass samples were synthesized by the conventional melt quenching technique using a carbon crucible under reductive condition and heat-treated at different temperatures. The samples exhibit photoluminescence and radioluminescence with a broad emission due to Eu2+, and the observed emission peaks are blue-shifted in the crystallized samples. The decay time constants are the typical values of the 5d-4f transitions of Eu2+. The glass sample shows no clear thermoluminescence glow peak while the glass-ceramic samples show an intense thermoluminescence glow peak around 180 degrees C. The thermoluminescence intensity monotonically increases with the irradiated X-ray dose, which covers from 0.01 to 1000 mGy.
