Summary: This study found that the progression of colorectal cancer is associated with tumor metastasis. In vivo models using mice showed that injection of cancer cells into the colon or spleen resulted in lung and liver metastasis. The expression level of IL22BP in colorectal cancer patients was correlated with metastatic tumor stages. Therefore, IL-22 might be a potential therapeutic target against the progression of metastatic colorectal cancer.

Summary: Liver metastasis is the main cause of death in colorectal cancer, with the formation of a pre-metastatic niche playing a crucial role. While significant progress has been made in understanding the mechanisms mediating the formation of liver PMN in CRC, challenges and questions remain. This review highlights the cellular and molecular components contributing to the formation of the liver PMN in CRC, with the aim of providing new ideas for effective therapeutic strategies and prognostic markers for CRCLM.
