Summary: The family Aizoaceae is a diverse group of plants, with around 1880 species, particularly in arid areas of southern Africa. These plants have evolved special reproductive adaptations to survive in harsh climatic conditions. The study focused on the anatomical features, evolutionary trends, and ecological significance of the seeds of 132 species from 61 genera. Several diagnostic characters were identified and added to the list of characteristics distinguishing major clades within the family.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study aimed to determine if positive and close surgical margins are associated with worse prognosis in patients who underwent transoral robotic surgery after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The results showed that positive margins were not independently predictive of tumor control and survival. A threshold of 1.25 mm was identified as the most appropriate to define close margins, but no difference was measured between close and wide negative margins.

Summary: This paper introduces a toolbox called "BigBrainWarp" aimed at simplifying the workflow of integrating histological atlases of the human brain with multi-modal neuroimaging and promoting the adoption of best practices. The toolbox provides a simple wrapper function for users to easily map data between BigBrain and standard MRI spaces, automatically pulling specialized transformation procedures based on a wide collaborative network of researchers to support multi-scale brain organization investigations.

Summary: Migraine and sarcoidosis may share some common biological and clinical pathways. Both conditions involve inflammation and immune system dysregulation. Migraine is a common comorbidity in sarcoidosis patients, and there have been reports of individuals with neurosarcoidosis experiencing migraines. The exact relationship between the two disorders is still unclear.

Summary: This study found that the nodal yield in elective neck dissections in patients without evidence of lymph node disease had prognostic capacity depending on the location of the primary tumor, with significant impact on disease-specific mortality for tumors located in the oral cavity, oropharynx, and hypopharynx. However, for tumors located in the larynx, the number of dissected nodes did not significantly influence the prognosis.

Summary: Patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) face long-term mortality risks post-treatment, with causes of death including the primary tumor, second or successive neoplasms, and non-cancer reasons. Mortality shifts from primary tumor-related to competing causes over time during follow-up. Understanding how patient characteristics impact mortality patterns can help optimize clinical management protocols.

Summary: This study demonstrated that assessing skeletal muscle mass (SMM) from the computed tomography image of the 3rd cervical vertebra (C3) can predict the risk of pharyngocutaneous fistula (PCF) formation after total laryngectomy (TL). Low SMM was significantly associated with a higher risk of PCF, and sarcopenia was more common in underweight patients, those undergoing extended surgeries, or presenting preoperative anemia or hypoalbuminemia.

Summary: Endoscopic endonasal surgery is an effective treatment for selected cases of sinonasal cancers, but there is still debate in some cases. Based on the available literature, this surgery allows for safe resection of selected lesions with decreased morbidity, but when contraindicated, craniofacial and transfacial approaches remain the best option.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the differential characteristics of HNSCC patients without a history of toxic substance consumption. Through a retrospective study of 4,694 HNSCC patients treated in our center from 1985 to 2019, it was found that 7.7% of patients did not report a history of toxic substance consumption. Patients without a toxic history were older, had a higher proportion of women, a higher frequency of cases located in the oral cavity, a higher proportion of early-stage diagnoses, and a lower incidence of second neoplasms. The overall survival of patients without a history of toxic substance consumption was significantly higher than that of patients with toxic substance use.

Summary: This study evaluated the perception of the survival/laryngeal preservation trade-off in advanced T-stage laryngeal cancer. The findings showed that some patients had difficulty making a decision between treatment options, while others preferred to prioritize laryngeal preservation over survival. Factors such as patient status, occupation, and treatment data were found to influence the perception of trade-off.
