Summary: This study aimed to assess the relationship between negative emotions, sleep quality, perceived stress, stress coping strategies, and suicidal ideation and attempts among high school students. The results showed that girls had higher levels of anxiety, depression, aggression, and insomnia compared to boys, and these negative emotions and insomnia increased the risk of suicidal ideation and attempts. Additionally, a high level of stress was associated with a higher likelihood of suicidal ideation. Girls had significantly higher prevalence of suicidal ideation and attempts.

Summary: Sleep duration is associated with suicidal ideation and suicide attempts among Korean adolescents, with short sleep duration being associated with both suicidal ideation and attempts, and long sleep duration only associated with suicide attempts. Depressive and anxiety symptoms mediate the relationship between sleep duration and suicidal intensity. Therefore, suicide prevention strategies should focus on restoring normal sleep duration and treating depressive/anxiety symptoms.

Summary: Pesticide exposure and poisoning can increase the risk of mental health problems and suicidal tendencies. A systematic review found that farmers exposed to pesticides had a higher prevalence of depressive disorders, and previous pesticide poisoning increased the risk of depression. Financial difficulties and poor health were also linked to depression in this population. Additionally, suicide rates were higher in areas with intensive pesticide consumption, highlighting the need for greater attention to the mental health of farmers and further research on occupational exposure to pesticides.

Summary: Sleep and mental health are important aspects of human health that are often overlooked and undiagnosed in sport. Athletes are disproportionately affected by mental health issues and sleep problems, which can have negative impacts on their athletic performance and overall well-being. Further research is needed to comprehensively assess and compare these issues across different competition levels, sports, and genders.

Summary: Black children are less likely than White children to have clinically-identified internalizing conditions, especially anxiety, but have a higher likelihood of being identified with conduct problems. They also have greater exposure to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), higher rates of being uninsured and experiencing poverty, and lower rates of receiving needed mental health services. These differences can be partly explained by assessment bias and the impact of ACEs. Routine screening for depression/anxiety in racial/ethnic minority children, particularly among Black youth, is recommended.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in physical activity, sleep, and screen time during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia, and their association with mental health for parents and children. The findings suggest that children's sleep problems are significantly associated with mental health problems, and poor sleep quality and lower levels of physical activity are also associated with poorer mental health for parents.

Summary: Suicide is a significant public health issue, and previous research suggests that problematic sleep is a risk factor for suicidal ideation in major depression and anxiety disorders. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between sleep and suicidal ideation in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Participants with major depressive disorder (MDD) and SAD were included in the study, and their sleep duration, sleep quality, and suicidal ideation were assessed using wrist actigraphy and self-report measures. The results showed that sleep duration and sleep quality were related to suicidal ideation, independent of symptom severity and age. These findings suggest that sleep and suicidal ideation may be transdiagnostic features of both MDD and SAD, and improving sleep duration and quality could potentially reduce the risk of suicidal ideation.

Summary: This study investigates the differential placebo response for suicidal ideation compared to other depressive symptoms in clinical trials of IV ketamine. The findings suggest that placebo response for suicidal ideation may be different from other symptoms, which may explain the less prominent effect of IV ketamine on suicidal ideation compared to overall depression.
