Summary: This study found associations between physical function and activity metrics other than MVPA among older adults, with steps showing a significant relationship with physical function in adults aged 75+. The study also found that worse function was more pronounced in participants with the lowest levels of MVPA. These findings support research on broader activity patterns for improving function in older adults.

Summary: The study found that higher sedentary time (ST) was associated with lower composite physical function (CPF) score, while higher moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) was associated with better CPF score. Breaks in sedentary time (BST) were not related to physical independence after accounting for MVPA and ST. MVPA was found to moderate the relationship between ST and physical independence.

Summary: There is a familial association between physical activity and sedentary behavior, with mothers playing an important role in influencing children's activity levels. Grandparents have less significant impact on children's activity, while grandfathers' sedentary behavior is a predictor of children's sedentary behavior.

Summary: Sleep duration, leisure-time physical activity (LTPA), and screen-based sedentary behavior have been found to have non-linear associations with dementia risk. A combination of 7-hour sleep, moderate-to-high LTPA, and low-to-moderate sedentary behavior showed the lowest dementia risk. These behaviors were also non-linearly associated with brain structures, suggesting that they may affect dementia risk by influencing brain structures.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between nap habituality and sedentary time and physical activity in preschool-aged children. The study also explored the association between nap physiology and movement behaviors, as well as the impact of missing a nap on movement behaviors. The findings suggest that there is no significant relationship between naps and movement behaviors in children.

Summary: This study compared the moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) levels and teaching practices in primary physical education (PE) using linear pedagogy, nonlinear pedagogy, and usual practice. The results showed that both linear and nonlinear pedagogical approaches did not negatively impact MVPA levels compared to usual practice. Additionally, these pedagogical approaches included higher percentages of MVPA promoting teaching practices.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between asthma and work absence in a large sample of US working adults, while controlling for several sociodemographic and health characteristics. The results showed that individuals with asthma were more likely to report at least one or three days of absence from work in the past 12 months than those without asthma. Furthermore, after adjusting for all control variables, asthma was positively and significantly associated with work absence.

Summary: Gout, a common rheumatic disease, has been understudied in non-industrialized countries. This study aimed to investigate the global burden of gout, including its associations with various factors. The findings revealed an increasing trend in the total number of gout patients and age-standardized prevalence rate from 1990 to 2019. Gout was most prevalent in Australasia and high-income North America, and higher sociodemographic index was associated with higher prevalence, incidence, and YLDs. High BMI and kidney dysfunction were identified as risk factors for gout, and gout showed correlations with other kidney diseases.

Summary: This study found that spending more time on moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) relative to sedentary behavior (SB), sleep, or light-intensity physical activity (LIPA) is associated with a lower risk of depression. Replacing sleep, SB, or LIPA with MVPA time was strongly associated with lower depression risk. Reallocating time between SB, sleep, or LIPA had minimal to no effect on depression risk.

Summary: The novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, has caused the highly contagious COVID-19 disease which has severely impacted developed and low- to middle-income countries. Nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) such as social distancing, quarantine, and personal hygiene measures have been widely employed. A survey of 92 countries/territories found that quarantine and isolation at designated places were associated with lower incidence and mortality rates, while the use of sanitizer for personal hygiene reduced incidence. Mask deprivation was common regardless of economic level, and higher incidence and mortality were observed in countries/territories with higher economic levels.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the prognostic role of CD274 (PD-L1) overexpression in malignant tumors. The meta-analysis of eligible studies suggests that CD274 (PD-L1) overexpression is a potential biomarker for multiple types of cancers and is associated with worse prognosis. However, further studies are needed to confirm these findings and reduce heterogeneity.

Summary: The aim of this study was to explore the barriers and facilitators to implementing physical activity promotion in eyecare services from the perspective of eyecare professionals. Qualitative interviews were conducted with eleven eyecare professionals, and thematic analysis was used to identify key themes. The study identified barriers to physical activity promotion, including lack of time, health and safety concerns, fear of negative patient experiences, lack of knowledge, and patient resistance, as well as facilitators such as easy access to information and organizational change.
