Summary: In this study, the transcriptomes of Anthurium andraeanum with different spathe colors were analyzed, revealing multiple differentially expressed genes potentially involved in various biological and metabolic pathways. The chalcone isomerase (CHI) gene was identified as strongly associated with color differences, while a differentially expressed cytochrome P450 gene may determine the distinction between red and purple spathes. Additionally, transcription factors related to the anthocyanin pathway were identified, providing valuable sequence information for future research in ornamental breeding strategies.

Summary: This study analyzed eight cultivars with different spathe colors and found that increased expression of transcription factor AaMYB2 was associated with elevated levels of anthocyanin in spathes, while decreased expression of AaMYB2 and increased expression of AaLAR and AaANR were accompanied with the accumulation of colorless proanthocyanidin, resulting in white spathes. The green spathes were attributed to the higher chlorophyll content and the increased expression of chlorophyll biosynthesis-related genes AaHemB and AaPor. A working model for the formation of white and green spathes was proposed.

Summary: Anthurium cultivars with high initial chlorophyll content have a longer vase life, especially under high light conditions. The ability to increase chlorophyll content in the vase is associated with an extended vase life. Chlorophyll content is a better predictor of vase life than the red dip index derived from hyperspectral reflectance.

Summary: MYB and BBX transcription factors regulate flavonoid biosynthesis in woodland strawberry. Overexpression of FaMYB5 in woodland strawberry increases anthocyanin and proanthocyanidin content in roots, stems, and leaves. Interaction between FaBBX24 and the N-terminal of FaMYB5 is confirmed. Co-expression of FaBBX24 and FaMYB5 in cultivated strawberry promotes the expression of key genes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis and increases flavonoid content in fruits.

Summary: Flavonoid biosynthesis in plants is mainly regulated at the transcriptional level by a complex of transcription factors, such as MYB, bHLH, and WD40. In Chinese Narcissus, genes related to this regulatory complex, NtbHLH1 and NtMYB6, were cloned. NtbHLH1 and NtMYB6 are highly expressed in the basal plates of Narcissus, where proanthocyanidin accumulates, suggesting their role in enhancing flavonoid accumulation.

Summary: The WD40 gene RsTTG1 from Raphanus sativus was characterized and found to play a crucial role in pigmentation and trichome development. RsTTG1 interacts with RsTT8 and moves from the cytoplasm to the nucleus in the presence of RsTT8. Co-expression of RsTTG1 with RsMYB1 and RsTT8 activates the promoters of anthocyanin biosynthesis genes. These findings highlight the importance of RsTTG1 as a functional homolog of AtTTG1.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular mechanisms of petal coloration in tulip flowers. The results showed that two transcription factors, TgbHLH42-1 and TgbHLH42-2, function redundantly to regulate anthocyanin biosynthesis during tulip petal coloration.

Summary: The genus Vaccinium L. (Ericaceae) contains premium berryfruit crops, which are associated with various potential health benefits attributed to their high concentrations of flavonoids. Recent progress in Vaccinium genomics and genetics, as well as functional data on flavonoid regulation, have furthered our understanding of crop improvement and flavonoid biosynthesis. This update highlights the significant gains in genomic tools and functional analysis, using Vaccinium as an example.

Summary: This study revealed that MdBT2 undergoes posttranslational modifications in response to nitrate deficiency, and interacts with MdGRF11, a 14-3-3 protein, which negatively regulates the stability of MdBT2 protein via a 26S proteasome-dependent pathway. This leads to increased abundance of MdMYB1 proteins and activation of anthocyanin biosynthesis-related genes. The results demonstrate the critical role of 14-3-3 proteins in the regulation of nitrate deficiency-induced anthocyanin accumulation.
