Summary: Inflammation is closely related to cancer, and NLR from routine blood testing serves as an easily accessible prognostic biomarker, aiding in assessing clinical outcomes in colorectal cancer patients. Combining results from numerous studies, high NLR was found to be associated with poor clinical outcomes, despite limitations in some studies, it should be routinely collected in clinical trials.

Summary: This study analyzed the levels of peripheral blood NLR in 203 patients with early cervical cancer and evaluated the relationship between NLR changes, clinicopathological characteristics, and patient prognosis. The study found that high preoperative NLR was associated with shorter overall survival and high postoperative NLR was associated with lower progression-free survival. Postmenopausal patients and those without vascular infiltration had higher rates of NLR increase. Further multicenter studies are needed to verify the effect of NLR changes on the prognosis of cervical cancer patients.

Summary: In this study, it was found that bladder cancer patients with IMPROVE score greater than 4 had higher NLR, LMR, and lymphocyte values. The IMPROVE score was significantly influenced by lymphocyte count and NLR value. Patients with NMIBC with low lymphocytes and NLR > 3 were at a higher risk of developing venous thromboembolic events.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the association between systemic inflammatory markers and clinicopathological factors in thyroid cancers. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were significantly higher in cases with lateral lymph node metastasis (LNM). NLR was found to be a significant predictor of thyroid cancers in cases with nodules greater than 2 cm.

Summary: This study demonstrated the predictive capability of combining NLR with AFP, CEA and uric acid in identifying CK19 expression in HCC patients preoperatively, suggesting a potential for improving diagnosis and treatment strategies for these patients. Further prospective, large-scale studies are needed to validate the findings.

Summary: The role of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in predicting spontaneous preterm birth was investigated. Retrospective data collected from hospital records between February 2018 and November 2022 showed that NLR and PLR values can predict preterm birth with high sensitivity and specificity. Predicting preterm birth allows for sensitive and smooth management of the pregnancy process.

Summary: This study assessed the effects of immunotherapy plus radiotherapy on survival outcomes in patients with advanced esophageal cancer and established a prognostic nomogram based on independent prognostic factors. The results showed that immunotherapy plus radiotherapy resulted in significantly longer progression-free survival and overall survival compared to immunotherapy alone. The nomogram based on prognostic factors can guide personalized treatment and monitoring of prognosis.

Summary: This meta-analysis revealed that the preoperative CONUT score is a potential independent predictor of the postoperative prognosis of RCC/UTUC patients. A high CONUT predicts worse overall survival, cancer-specific survival, disease-free survival, and recurrence-free survival in patients.

Summary: The study confirmed the importance of whole blood cell count-derived indexes including NLR, MLR/LMR, and PLR as prognostic parameters for GBC patients, and can be used to predict survival outcomes, helping to improve risk stratification and patient selection.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility of combining tertiary lymphoid structure (TLS) and systemic inflammation parameters as prognosis indicators for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. The results show a positive correlation between TLS density and patient survival, although the predictive power of TLS density alone is limited. However, combining TLS density with neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and other parameters improves survival prediction for HCC patients. A nomogram is also developed to provide a reproducible approach for survival prediction in HCC clinical practice.

Summary: Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a good marker to predict the severity of sepsis, showing significant correlation with SOFA score and presepsin. NLR is less expensive and easier to perform, potentially becoming a good alternate option for evaluating sepsis severity.

Summary: This meta-analysis aims to clarify the effect of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) on the prognosis of hypopharyngeal cancer. The results show that high NLR is associated with poor overall survival and progression-free survival in patients with hypopharyngeal cancer. Pretreatment NLR can be used as an effective serological indicator to assess the prognosis of these patients.

Summary: A low baseline NLR and an early reduction in NLR are significantly associated with a better prognosis in mCRC patients treated with immunotherapy. The combination of NLR and TMB can provide additional predictive power.
