News. Sports performance is the pursuit of excellence where a sportsman measures his or her performance quantitatively or qualitatively to move towards his or her desired goal. Several physical aspects can influence sport performance. One of these aspects is the neuromuscular factor Tsolakis and Tsolakis (2008) that arises from the relationship between the nervous system, and the musculoskeletal system. Moreover, in many sports (for example, running and cycling), the establishment of an effective rhythm will keep an athlete organised, and physically efficient for an excellent performance. Subsequently, this rhythm will impose a cadence on musculoskeletal activity, mental control as well as psychological factors. These psychological factors can be self-motivation, level of alertness and mental acuity that are the product of a number of integrated factors like physical fatigue or other unrelated sport stresses such as environmental conditions that are not within the athlete's personal control. The athlete is required to have the ability to adapt in these unexpected environmental factors. Another aspect is coaching and external support/assistance for the athlete (in terms of nutrition, sport technique, tactics and training) to the aspiring competitor for success to occur. Amidst all these factors which influence sports performance, there is one crucial factor which cannot be overlooked and it is the exercise-induced fatigue which causes a reduction in physical and mental performance. Conclusion. Therefore, in this review, we describe and discuss the various physiological theoretical models of exercise-induced fatigue, and the way forward to assess these theories using mathematical models and analysis of biosignals. Six high-intensity interval training sessions over 5 days increases maximal oxygen uptake, endurance capacity, and sub-maximal exercise fat oxidation as much as 6 high-intensity interval training sessions over 2 weeks

Summary: The study showed that performing 6 sessions of HIIT over 5 days was as effective as doing 6 sessions over 2 weeks in increasing VO2max and endurance capacity, and even more effective in improving submaximal exercise fat oxidation.

Metabolic equivalent of task and the accuracy of resting metabolic rate prediction equations in inactive, healthy postmenopausal women with overweight and obesity

Y. Guzel, H. H. Turnagol, M. M. Atakan, S. Bulut, T. Hazir, S. N. Kosar

Summary: This study aimed to compare the traditionally accepted oxygen consumption value for 1 metabolic equivalent of task with measured resting oxygen consumption in postmenopausal women with overweight and obesity. The results showed that resting oxygen consumption in this population was lower than the traditionally accepted value. Additionally, the selected prediction equations significantly overestimated resting metabolic rate. The findings suggest that the use of standard metabolic equivalent of task may lead to misclassification of physical activity intensities in this population, and indirect calorimetry should be preferred for determining resting metabolic rate.

THE INTER-RATER AND INTRA-RATER RELIABILITY OF GLENOHUMERAL JOINT POSITION AND MOVEMENT SENSE TESTS APPLIED USING AN ISOKINETIC DYNAMOMETER

Serdar Arslan, Gokmen Yapali

Summary: This study aimed to assess the reliability of an isokinetic dynamometer in measuring glenohumeral joint position and movement sense tests. The results showed moderate-good reliability for intra-rater and inter-rater tests in measuring GHJ internal rotation movement sense. The intra-rater test reliability was poor in external rotation, but the inter-rater test reliability was moderate-good. However, the isokinetic dynamometer demonstrated excellent intra-rater and inter-rater test reliability in movement sense measurements. The conformity and repeatability of both position and movement sense tests were extremely good.

Summary: The study compared the quality of life, knee functions, and isokinetic muscle strength of patients who underwent ACL reconstruction with hamstring tendon (HT) and bone-tendon-bone (BTB) autografts. There was no statistically significant difference in isokinetic evaluation and Lysholm score between the two groups, but there was a significant difference in SF-36 physical function domain score. The SF-36 questionnaire can be easily applied to this patient population.
