Summary: This study developed a risk scoring system for adult heart transplant recipients in Germany and compared it with similar tools from the US and France, finding that the German score had the highest discriminatory ability. The findings suggest that these risk assessment tools can be used for risk-adjusted organ allocation to improve outcomes in heart transplantation, with potential for further improvement by incorporating additional risk factors.

Summary: The study concludes that the developed scoring tools can serve as reliable support for risk-adjusted organ allocation and potentially improve outcomes in heart transplantation. Further developments should include as yet unaccounted risk factors for even more reliable predictions.

Summary: Using the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients, this study analyzed the impact of donor-recipient biologic relationship on long-term survival for glomerulonephritis patients. The study found that the biologic relationship did not affect recipient or graft survival, despite a higher risk of acute rejection in unrelated donor-recipient pairs. These findings support the benefits of living-related-donor kidney transplants and contradict previous reports suggesting a negative effect of the biologic relationship on allograft outcomes.

Summary: The study found that a small percentage of reproductive aged women meet recommendations for fruit and meat consumption, while less than 20% meet recommendations for vegetables, grains, and dairy. Although there was no significant difference in overall Dietary Guideline Index scores, older women scored higher in specific components related to saturated fat, low-fat milk consumption, and salt intake during cooking. Continued health promotion for women of reproductive age should be a key focus for improving their own health and that of future generations.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of age differences between older adult living donors and recipients on kidney transplantation outcomes. The results showed that kidney transplants from older adult donors to older adult recipients had the highest risk of graft loss and mortality, with recipients having lower estimated glomerular filtration rates.

Summary: This study showed an increasing trend of cytomegalovirus (CMV) donor-positive/recipient-negative (D+R-) serostatus among adult solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients in the United States. The proportion of high-risk CMV D+R- SOTs increased significantly across all organs and is projected to continue to increase. These findings highlight the importance of population-level strategies to mitigate the negative impact of CMV D+R- in SOT.

Summary: Among adult liver transplant recipients, the CMV D+R- serostatus group is independently associated with increased risks of graft loss and mortality. Even in an era of CMV preventive strategies, the CMV D+R- serogroup status remains independently associated with increased graft loss and mortality in adult liver transplant recipients.

Summary: Liver grafts from young donors aged 0 to 9 carry higher risks of graft failure in adult recipients, while a donor-recipient height mismatch ratio (HMR) below 0.8 is associated with inferior graft and patient survival compared to pairs with similar heights.

Summary: The study found that living donor kidney transplants from donors biologically related to their recipients had higher rates of allograft failure than transplants from donors unrelated to their recipients after HLA matching was accounted for. This association was mainly observed in recipients without cystic kidney disease and transplants from African American donors. Further research is needed to explore the factors contributing to this finding.

Summary: The impact of selecting older donors for living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) in the United States is incompletely understood. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of donor age on recipient and graft survival in LDLT. The results showed that increasing living donor age is associated with decreased recipient and graft survival, with a more profound impact after LDLT compared to deceased donor liver transplantation.

Summary: Older adults are a growing population of kidney failure patients, and living donor kidney transplant offers better outcomes for suitable patients. However, it can be challenging for older adults to explore and find a living donor.

Summary: The transplantation of aged organs may have negative effects on recipients due to the accumulation of senescent cells, which can promote aging in recipient cells through the secretion of pro-inflammatory molecules. Studies have shown that transplanting old organs may limit the physical reserve of recipients.

Summary: The study found that lower-intensity immunosuppression regimens, such as steroid-sparing, appear beneficial for older kidney transplant recipients, while mTORi and cyclosporine-based maintenance immunosuppression are associated with higher risk of adverse outcomes in both older and younger patients.

Summary: A retrospective review of patients undergoing minimally invasive esophagectomy for esophageal neoplasm found an anastomotic leak rate of 20.3%, with postoperative blood transfusion, incomplete anastomotic rings, and neoadjuvant therapy being associated factors. Anastomotic leak was associated with inferior short-term outcomes including hospital length of stay, discharge disposition, and need for additional endoscopic procedures, but not with overall survival at 1 year or 5 years.
