Summary: The aim of this study is to review the literature and understand various tissue processing protocols of four leading tissue banks in the United States. Similarities between the major tissue banks include donor screening, aseptic processing, and testing for microorganisms, while variability exists in storage media, antibiotic usage, storage temperature, and graft expiration dates.

Summary: The study found that physiological storage at 37 degrees Celsius improves chondrocyte viability and metabolism, and maintains collagen expression compared to storage at 22 degrees Celsius, suggesting potential for optimizing short-term fresh OCA storage for improved clinical outcomes.

Summary: Postmenopausal women have an increased risk of intervertebral disc degeneration, possibly due to decreased estrogen levels. This study investigated the effects of 17-beta-estradiol (E2) and low-magnitude, high-frequency vibration (LMHFV) on intervertebral discs (IVDs). The results showed that E2 treatment had minor effects on gene expression, cellularity, and matrix metabolism, while LMHFV alone led to cell loss and increased production of IL-6. However, the combination of E2 and LMHFV had a protective effect against cell loss and decreased IL-6 production.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of supplementing L-carnitine in the in vitro culture medium on preimplantation development, quality, cryotolerance, and gene expression of embryos. The results showed that adding low levels of FCS and LC improved blastocyst formation rate and quality, while regulating genes involved in embryo activities.

Summary: The content of cellular matrix in OCA cartilage tissue affects the success of transplantation. This study evaluated the effect of different GAG contents on the success of OCA transplantation in a rabbit animal model and found poorer tissue integration in groups with higher chondroitinase action times.

Summary: Fetal bovine serum (FBS) is a natural medium used in cell cultures for its abundance of nutrients necessary for cell growth. Different brands of FBS have varying influences on the expression of IL-8 in epithelial cells, possibly due to endogenous small molecules and the ERK pathway in FBS. Considering the metabolites in FBS could improve the repeatability of experimental results in scientific papers, particularly in immune-related experiments, making IL-8 an important factor in selecting FBS.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of bovine serum albumin (BSA) on the micellization and sol-gel transition behaviors of poloxamer 407 (PX). While BSA did not affect the critical micellization concentration, it expanded the pre-micellar region and influenced gelation temperature and gel integrity of PX-based systems.

Summary: ATP is released as a messenger in various physiological conditions and is present in small amounts in healthy tissues and blood. Fetal bovine sera commonly used in cell culture systems contain ATP in a range of 300-1300 pmol/L. This ATP is associated with albumin and microparticle/microvesicle fraction, and its presence affects in vitro cell responses. These findings highlight the varying levels of extracellular ATP and purinergic stimulation experienced by cells growing in serum-supplemented media.

Summary: This study analyzed the chemical composition of commercial FBS products and FBS substitutes developed by the team, revealing significant differences in composition among different species. To fully replace commercial FBS, it is necessary to produce an equally or similarly composed substitute product.

Summary: This study suggests that human platelet lysate (hPL) can support both osteoclastic differentiation of human monocytes (MCs) and osteogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in both mono- and co-culture. The use of hPL could potentially reduce the dependence on fetal bovine serum (FBS) in in vitro bone remodeling models.

Summary: Solid-state hydrogen storage with Mg added with high efficiency catalysts shows promise in breaking through the barrier of hydrogen storage materials. By adding single-metal (Al) and bimetal (Al, Zr) into Mg nanoparticles using the hydrogen plasma-metal reaction (HPMR) method, Mg-Al and Mg-Al-Zr nanocomposites with an approximate size of 100 nm were prepared. The addition of Al and Zr significantly accelerates the hydrogen absorption and desorption kinetics of Mg, with the Mg-Al-Zr nanocomposites showing enhanced kinetics compared to the Mg-Al nanocomposites. The nanostructure of Mg and the synergistic catalytic effects of active catalytic sites and H diffusion channels provided by the multiphase nanocatalysts contribute to the reduction of activation energy.
