Summary: For young people with obsessive-compulsive disorder, a low-cost digital intervention followed by in-person treatment for nonresponders was found to be cost-effective compared with in-person cognitive behavior therapy alone. This study suggests that guided internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy within a stepped-care model may be a more efficient treatment option for children and adolescents with OCD.

Summary: Hoarding disorder (HD) is a mental disorder characterized by difficulty parting with possessions and impairing life functioning. Research shows that individuals with HD have poor sleep quality, higher levels of insomnia symptoms, and comorbid sleep disorders. Sleep may be a new target for treatment in improving outcomes for individuals with HD.

Summary: This study estimated the prevalence of hoarding disorder (HD) in children and adolescents using a two-stage epidemiological research approach, finding a prevalence rate of 0.98%. The study also identified factors associated with the disorder, such as female sex and the presence of any psychopathology, and found that more than half of children with HD also had a comorbid psychiatric disorder.

Summary: This study examined beliefs and behaviors related to doomsday prepping in the context of COVID-19, finding that prepping was higher in males and associated with anxiety, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, IU, and traditional masculinity traits. Older age, male gender, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and traditional masculinity were predictors of unique variance in prepping behavior. The relationship between gender and stockpiling was mediated by social learning and perceived threat of COVID-19, rather than proximity and personal vulnerability.

Summary: The study showed that the internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) program followed by traditional in-person CBT if necessary was noninferior to in-person CBT alone for treating children and adolescents with obsessive-compulsive disorder. There was no significant difference in symptoms between the two groups at the 6-month follow-up. Despite varying treatment responses, overall, the noninferiority of internet-delivered CBT was confirmed.

Summary: Cooperation and exchange between strangers without knowledge of each other is fundamental to human societies, but also carries the risk of defecting agents. We examine the minimum requirement for safe exchange between strangers and show that competing agents settle on exchange as a local optimum. Truly safe exchanges are rare, but an "implicit" hold is sufficient to enable common swaps that provide a trade-off between risk and convenience.

Summary: There is a high prevalence of bidirectional relationship between obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and sleep problems in youth, but support for this model is still preliminary. Anxiety disorders may initially predate sleep problems, but become mutually maintained over time, while the role of comorbid depression appears to increase with age.

Summary: This study evaluated the severity of bowel and bladder dysfunction (BBD) symptoms in children and adolescents with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The results showed that BBD symptoms are common and associated with high levels of impairment and psychiatric comorbidities in this population. Summary: This study aimed to compare the perspectives of school personnel and parents on children with OCD. The findings revealed that school personnel were more concerned about deficits in executive function and common childhood psychiatric disorder symptoms, while they paid less attention to OCD-specific symptoms. However, when considering both OCD-specific and common childhood psychiatric disorder symptoms, school personnel reported some students above the OCD threshold, whereas parents did not report them.

Summary: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) negatively affects the school functioning of affected youth, particularly in terms of avoidance of activities, places, objects, and people at school. Most parents disclosed their child's OCD diagnosis to the school and had a positive experience with it. Participation in group family-based CBT and the presence of specific symptoms increased the likelihood of completing the survey.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of rare and common variants of growth factors (GFs) in the genetic susceptibility of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The results showed an enrichment of rare missense variants in GF gene-set in AD patients, with the epidermal growth factor (EGF) being the most strongly associated. The common variant rs4698800 of EGF was significantly associated with AD risk, and increased EGF expression was observed in AD brain.

Summary: Three novel monoterpenoid indole alkaloid dimers (kopoffines A-C) and nine known alkaloids were isolated and identified from the fruits of Kopsia arborea Blume. Kopoffines A-C exhibited significant inhibition against cyclin-dependent kinase 5 and reduced the levels of phosphorylated Tau, which are involved in the formation of neurofibrillary tangles. These findings may have implications for the development of therapeutics for related diseases.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a highly heritable age-related neurodegenerative disease. Genetic basis exploration is crucial for understanding the pathogenic mechanisms of AD. This study identified a functional variant rs2289702 in the CTSH gene that is associated with a protective effect against AD. The study also revealed the genetic regulating mechanism of CTSH in the pathogenesis of AD, including its impact on CTSH mRNA expression and phagocytosis of A beta peptides.

Summary: By conducting large-scale comparative genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic analyses, we investigated the evolutionary changes of brain genes from ancestral primates to humans and provided a comprehensive listing of innovative genetic elements. The regulatory sequences associated with brain-expressed genes underwent rapid changes, particularly in the ancestor of the Simiiformes. Comparisons of primate and non-primate brain transcriptomic data revealed that these regulatory sequences may drive the high expression of certain genes in primate brains. Our study also demonstrated the recruitment of the primate-specific brain-biased gene BMP7 to regulate neuronal proliferation in the primate ventricular zone. These findings provide valuable insights into the genetic basis of human brain evolution and inherited diseases.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is a common neurodegenerative disease in the elderly, and the lack of suitable animal models has been a limitation in its study. Tree shrews, with their closer genetic affinity to primates, have potential as a model for studying aging and Alzheimer's disease. This study found that aged tree shrews exhibited impaired cognitive performance and showed characteristics associated with Alzheimer's disease, such as amyloid-beta accumulation, tau protein phosphorylation, synaptic and neuronal loss, and reactive gliosis.
