Summary: In this article, a new multilevel particle filter method based on optimal Wasserstein coupling is introduced for the filtering problem of partially observed diffusions. The central limit theorem for the new method is proved and its effectiveness is confirmed in numerical examples. Additionally, it is found that in some scenarios, compared to existing methods, this method can reduce computational effort to achieve a given mean square error.

Summary: This study examines parameter inference in dynamical systems from the perspective of Bayesian inference. It proposes a sequential embedded estimation technique, called the Augmented Sequential Markov Chain Monte Carlo (ASMCMC) procedure, to estimate posterior density and obtain parameter inference in nonlinear and non-Gaussian dynamical systems.

Summary: This study proposes improvements to the Dynamic Likelihood Filter (DLF) for wave problems and compares its performance to the conventional approach using linear and nonlinear wave problems. The results show that the DLF/EnKF outperforms the conventional approach in amplitude and phase estimates, particularly when sparse and low uncertainty observations are used.

Summary: This study predicts the concentrations of chlortetracycline in slurry pit and soil, evaluating ecological risks, based on livestock farming practices and uncertainties. The Monte Carlo simulation was used for sensitivity analysis, revealing key factors influencing CTC exposure in soil. The results suggest that ecological risks of CTC in soil can be controlled through appropriate slurry pit farm practices.

Summary: Planning for autonomous vehicles to merge into high-density traffic flows is challenging due to the inability to directly observe the driving intentions of other vehicles. This study proposes a two-stage algorithm framework for online merging planning, using an improved particle filter to estimate the driving models of surrounding vehicles. The proposed algorithm, based on Monte Carlo tree search, evaluates different action spaces for longitudinal merging gap selection and lateral interactive merging operation. It also introduces coefficients related to driving styles and analyzes their influences on merging performance. Results from a simulation environment show that the proposed algorithm outperforms other baseline methods.

Summary: This study improves the reliability of extreme wind speed forecasts for offshore wind farms affected by typhoons through analyzing historical typhoon data and simulation models. Results show that offshore wind speeds are generally stronger under typhoon conditions compared to onshore speeds, as sea surface roughness does not increase proportionally with wind speed. Applying the research methods can help planners choose stronger wind turbines in typhoon-prone areas.

Summary: This article proposes a distributionally robust particle filtering framework for the modeling of nonlinear systems, which provides a solution to uncertainties and improves the performance of state estimators. The framework uses worst-case distributions to generate and evaluate prior state particles, quantifies the worst-case scenario using entropy, and utilizes statistical similarity measures to define the radii of the maximum entropy distributions. The study proves the robustness of Gaussian approximation filters and demonstrates the framework's capability in dealing with non-additive and non-multiplicative measurement noises. The article also discusses measurement outlier treatment strategies within the framework.

Summary: We propose an automated data augmentation approach for image classification, formulated as a Monte Carlo sampling problem. We use a particle filter scheme to search for augmentation policies, where the state of the filter represents the probability of applying augmentation operations. The policy performance is measured based on the difference in loss function between a reference model and the actual model, and this measure is used to update the policy distribution. Our experiments show promising results on CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, and ImageNet datasets using standard network architectures, with a balance between computational cost and model performance compared to related work. The source code of our approach is publicly available.

Summary: This paper addresses the important problem of assessing the quality of parameter estimates for models describing the motion of single molecules in cellular environments. It proposes a general methodology using sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) to estimate the Fisher information matrix (FIM) for nonstatic molecules and a non-Gaussian detection model. The results provide insights into the accuracy limits and separation distances between molecules in different experimental settings.
