Summary: The study developed a low-zinc-content, environmentally friendly ZREC by substituting zinc particles with ultrafine bamboo char particles, improving the corrosion resistance and hydrophobicity of the coatings. Experimental results showed that the UFBC/ZREC performed well in protecting mild steel against aggressive solutions, with enhanced coating barrier properties and inhibitory effects. Additionally, life cycle assessment and economic analyses demonstrated the superior eco-friendliness and economics of the UFBC/ZREC compared to neat ZREC.

Summary: In this study, a multifunctional epoxy composite coating (F-CB/CEP) was prepared by synthesizing cerium methacrylate as a novel curing agent for epoxy resin and using it as a corrosion inhibitor and modifier for boron nitride through cation-p interaction. The prepared F-CB/CEP coating showed high thermal conductivity and excellent corrosion resistance, as well as good low-frequency impedance, hydrophobicity, self-cleaning properties, temperature resistance, and adhesion.

Summary: The synergistic effect between nanomaterials with different dimensions can enhance wear and corrosion resistance of surface protective coatings. This study found that the GO-pva-SiC coating exhibits good lubricating performance under low load, while the RGO-pva-SiC coating has a longer wear life under high load. Furthermore, the addition of SiC nanowires can enhance the corrosion resistance of graphene-based coatings.

Summary: This study evaluated the corrosion behavior of composite coatings with MoS2 doping. Ni/WC-MoS2 composite coatings were prepared with different MoS2 doping concentrations and their composition, morphology, and surface contact angle were characterized. The corrosion behavior of the coatings in 3.5 wt% NaCl and the corrosion mechanism were investigated. The MoS2-doped composite coatings showed fewer surface defects and micro-nano structures. The coatings exhibited excellent corrosion resistance due to enhanced surface morphology and hydrophobicity.

Summary: In this study, a LaYbZr2O7 coating with exceptional thermal and mechanical properties was successfully fabricated. Summary: Thermal barrier coatings (TBC) are applied to improve the service temperature of hot part components in aero-engines. Hafnium-based materials have shown promise as a new candidate for TBC due to their structure, temperature stability, and thermal conductivity compared to traditional zirconium-based materials. This review summarizes recent progress in the research and development of hafnium-based TBC materials, including the phase stability, thermal and mechanical properties of rare-earth-doped HfO2 and RE hafnate materials. The review also discusses the challenges and future directions for hafnium-based TBC materials.

Summary: Nature-inspired biomimetic superhydrophobic surfaces (SHS) have wide interest and applications in industries due to their ability to prevent moisture ingress and corrosion. SHS provides protection against corrosion by creating an air layer at the metal/coating interface, while also reducing the adsorption of corrosive ions on the metal surface through its low surface energy and high surface roughness. The versatile properties of SHS can be fine-tuned by selecting appropriate materials and fabrication methods.
