Diagnostic pathways of Chagas disease in Spain: a qualitative study

Summary: This study uses Tanahashi's Health Service Coverage model to investigate the main diagnostic pathways for Chagas disease in a non-endemic country and the barriers and bottlenecks present in each pathway. The study reveals that there are fewer barriers in pathways such as pregnancy or blood donation, while individuals who actively seek testing or do not seek testing face various barriers.

Circulating Bile Acid Profiles: A Need for Further Examination

Summary: Circulating bile acids are increasingly recognized as metabolic integrators that link to various metabolic disorders, including obesity, T2DM, IR, and MAFLD. Abnormal profiles of circulating bile acids are associated with these disorders and could serve as novel biomarkers. Research suggests that obese and IR individuals have elevated fasting circulating bile acids but lower postprandial levels, potentially due to disruptions in synchronization between feeding/fasting cycles and bile acid-regulated metabolic pathways.

COVID-19 pandemic in shelters for asylum seekers: a scoping review of preventive measures

Stratification of priority territories for surveillance of chronic Chagas disease: multicriteria analysis for decision-making in health

Further Investigations of Nitroheterocyclic Compounds as Potential Antikinetoplastid Drug Candidates

Summary: Due to the lack of specific vaccines, neglected tropical diseases caused by trypanosomatids, such as sleeping sickness, Chagas disease and leishmaniasis, rely solely on pharmacological treatments. The current drugs have drawbacks including adverse effects, parenteral administration, chemical instability, and high costs. However, the discovery of new drugs for these diseases is rare due to the lack of interest from big pharmaceutical companies. Nitroheterocyclic compounds, such as benznidazole and nifurtimox, have provided potent effects against Chagas disease, and fexinidazole has been developed as a new drug against African trypanosomiasis. Despite being initially discarded due to their mutagenic potential, nitroheterocycles now show promise as a source of inspiration for developing oral drugs to replace existing ones.

Retrospective methodology to estimate daily infections from deaths (REMEDID) in COVID-19: the Spain case study

Summary: The authors proposed a retrospective methodology to estimate daily infections from daily deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain. This methodology can improve the accuracy of infection data.
