Retrospective methodology to estimate daily infections from deaths (REMEDID) in COVID-19: the Spain case study

David Garcia-Garcia, Maria Isabel Vigo, Eva S. Fonfria, Zaida Herrador, Miriam Navarro, Cesar Bordehore

Summary: The authors proposed a retrospective methodology to estimate daily infections from daily deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain. Their results showed that the actual daily infections during the first wave were much higher than officially documented, and the national lockdown had a significant impact on reducing virus transmission. This methodology can improve the accuracy of infection data.

Estimating chagas disease prevalence and number of underdiagnosed, and undertreated individuals in Spain

Miriam Navarro, Laura Reguero, Carme Subira, Antonio Blazquez-Perez, Ana Requena-Mendez

Summary: This study estimated the prevalence of Chagas disease and the number of undetected and untreated individuals in Spain. The burden of the disease is considerable, with high rates of underdiagnosis and undertreatment, particularly in women of childbearing age. However, there has been improvement in children since the implementation of antenatal screening programs.
