Summary: This paper presents a synthetic method for the synthesis of 1,2,4,5-tetraarylbenzene derivatives using cyclopropenes as starting materials. Through Lewis acid-mediated dimerization, cyclopropenes are transformed into tricyclo[3.1.0.02,4]hexane derivatives. The subsequent thermal ring-opening reaction under solvent-free conditions yields 1,4-cyclohexadienes bearing quaternary carbons. The novel Br2-mediated oxidative rearrangement of 1,4-cyclohexadienes results in the formation of 1,2,4,5-tetraarylbenzene derivatives with high to excellent yields.

Summary: An Oxone-mediated oxidative ring-opening reaction was reported for the synthesis of 2-hydroxy-2'-aroyl-1,1'-biaryls by cleaving a carbon-carbon bond of 4,5-disubstituted 9H-fluoren-9-ols. The reaction can be efficiently carried out by heating a mixture of fluoren-9-ols, Oxone, and 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol at 60 degrees C for 4 hours. The proposed persulfate-involved ring-expansion processes were supported by DFT calculations.

Summary: A study reported the application of an iodide-free catalyst in the production of acetic acid through methanol carbonylation, achieving methylation without the use of iodide. Experimental results showed that the catalyst mediated methylation through C-H bond activation and acetate migration, ultimately producing methyl acetate and acetic acid.

Summary: Here, an electrochemical approach is presented for the deconstructive functionalization of cycloalkanols, utilizing alcohols, carboxylic acids, and N-heterocycles as nucleophiles. The method is demonstrated to work on various cycloalkanol substrates, with different ring sizes and substituents, resulting in useful remotely functionalized ketone products (36 examples). Additionally, the method is scaled up to gram scale using single-pass continuous flow, showing increased productivity compared to batch processing.

Summary: The dissociation of OCS2+ ions formed by photoionization of the neutral molecule at 40.81 eV is analyzed using electron-ion coincidence spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. It is found that the dominant dissociation channel is charge separation, forming CO+ + S+ ion pairs with low intensity and smaller kinetic energy release. This is explained by the existence of two predissociation channels, including a newly identified COS2+ metastable state.

Summary: A novel electrochemical strategy is proposed to selectively and sustainably synthesize isoindolinones using simple o-alkyl benzoic acids and nitriles as substrates under metal catalyst and external oxidant-free conditions. The protocol exhibits good functional group tolerance and the nitrile plays a vital role in constructing the amide bond in the product.

Summary: The functionalization of etheric C-O bonds via C-O bond cleavage is a promising method for the synthesis of C-C and C-X bonds. However, the enantioselective version of these reactions, mainly involving C(sp(3))-O bond cleavage, is highly challenging. Here, we present a copper-catalyzed asymmetric cascade cyclization, which allows for the efficient and enantioselective synthesis of chromeno[3,4-c]pyrroles with a triaryl oxa-quaternary carbon stereocenter. Notably, this protocol represents the first example of [1,2]-Stevens-type rearrangement via C(sp(2))-O bond cleavage and [1,2]-aryl migration reactions via vinyl cations.

Summary: A variety of cyclic alcohols can be converted into medicinally relevant heterocycles by subjecting them to nitrogen insertion using O-mesitylsulfonylhydroxylamine. The use of fluorinated alcoholic solvents is crucial to activate the substrates and allow them to react with the ambiphilic aminating agent. This transition-metal-free reaction also provides an unprecedented access to indoles from ortho-substituted acetophenones when combined with a photochemical Norrish-Yang-type cyclization.

Summary: The mechanism of direct UV photolysis of the pyridine herbicide triclopyr was investigated using nanosecond laser flash photolysis, steady-state photolysis coupled with high resolution LC-MS, and DFT quantum chemical calculations. Short-lived intermediates and final products were detected and identified for the first time. The results provide insights into the fate of pyridine herbicides in UVC disinfection and natural waters under sunlight.

Summary: A selenium-catalysed para-hydroxylation of N-aryl-hydroxamic acids is reported in this study. The mechanism involves N-O bond cleavage and selenium-induced [2,3]-rearrangement to deliver para-hydroxyaniline derivatives. This redox-neutral transformation provides a new synthetic approach to para-aminophenols.

Summary: A new protocol for synthesizing cyanoformates was developed using simple beta-ketoesters as substrates. The key intermediates were prepared by efficient acid-assisted oximation of beta-ketoesters. The deconstruction of the intermediates provided cyanoformates due to fluoride addition and C-C bond cleavage. Various functionalized cyanoformates were exemplified under simple and mild reaction conditions.

Summary: Transition metal-catalyzed skeletal rearrangement reactions have rapidly advanced in the organic community, providing versatile methods for selective synthesis of special molecular scaffolds. A gold-catalyzed skeletal rearrangement of alkenes with alkynyl bromides was reported in this study, allowing for the regioselective generation of diverse tricyclic heterocycles with good yields. Mechanistic investigations using theoretical calculations were conducted to explain the regioselectivity of the reaction.

Summary: An air-stable organo(hydro)diborane with a five-membered aryl ring supported bridging B-C-B three-centre-two-electron (3c-2e) bond has been reported, showing a stepwise BH3 addition reaction with pyrido[1,2-asoindole and elimination of a hydrogen molecule during the second step of addition. DFT calculations suggest that the H-2 evolution is concerted with the second BH3 addition.

Summary: bZIP transcription factors play important regulatory roles in plant growth and stress responses. The study classified 132 bZIP genes in the tobacco genome into 11 groups and identified segmental duplications as crucial for gene family expansion. Expression analysis showed differential expression of NtbZIP genes in various tissues and stresses, with NtbZIP62 responding strongly to salinity stress and enhancing salt tolerance when overexpressed. This research provides valuable insights for future functional analyses of bZIP genes in tobacco.
