Summary: Host-guest complexes have great potential as supra-molecular drugs in pharmaceutical sciences due to their ability to enhance the activity of antibacterial agents. This study investigated the complexation of macrocyclic hosts with pirfenidone, a FDA-approved antifibrotic drug, to develop a microbiologically potent supramolecular drug. The results revealed an unprecedented interplay between the antibacterial activity of the hosts and their chemical interaction with pirfenidone, thereby improving the overall antibacterial activity of the drug.

Summary: Several gamma-cyclodextrin derivatives substituted with pyrenes at the primary rim of the CD were found to form nano-strips in aqueous solutions, with pyrene moieties interpenetrating into gamma-CD cavities. The aggregates provide a rigid chiral environment for the pyrenes, leading to significant electronic circular dichroism and circularly polarized luminescence activities.

Summary: A new sealed-heating condition is reported to prepare the HC form of the drug/(PEG/& gamma;-CD-PPRX) complex. The guest drug in the HC form demonstrated a size-dependent stoichiometric complexation. The encapsulation efficiency of the guest drugs in the HC form complex was governed by the vapor pressure and molecular size.

Summary: In this study, the self-assembly of amphiphilic di-macrocyclic host molecules based on beta-cyclodextrin and pillar[5]arene units linked by azophenyl or biphenyl groups was reported. H-1 formed unique nanorings and exhibited photoresponsive colour change, making it suitable for application in carbon paper materials. H-2 formed spherical micelles. These differences were attributed to changes in intermolecular and hydrophilic-hydrophobic interactions caused by different linker units.

Summary: In this study, an enzyme- and pH-responsive polymeric prodrug was developed by combining a dendronized structure with a poly(oligo-(ethylene glycol) methacrylate) backbone. The prodrug exhibited dual stimuli responsiveness and self-assembled into stable nanoparticles, which showed long-term circulation and enhanced cellular uptake. The nanoparticles demonstrated enhanced therapeutic effect and great hemocompatibility and biosafety. This strategy provides insights for the design of drug delivery carriers based on poly(oligo-(ethylene glycol) methacrylate).

Summary: By studying the effects of deposition temperature on the formation and structural order of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on Au(111), we found that higher deposition temperature improves the structural order of SAMs and increases van der Waals interactions, resulting in more negative potential shifts of reductive desorption peaks.

Summary: In this study, a stimuli-responsive supramolecular drug delivery system was developed using polymeric cyclodextrins as the main material. Through ring-opening polymerization and click chemistry, PEGylated PCD and a drug dimer linked by a disulfide bond were synthesized, forming stable supramolecular micelles with high drug loading efficiency. These micelles could be dissociated under reducing conditions, releasing the drug and showing excellent anti-cancer efficacy in vitro.

Summary: The study provides insights into the molecular architecture and binding constant of the SLZ-beta-CD inclusion complex using various analytical techniques. It reveals the relative orientation and specific binding mode between SLZ and beta-CD. Moreover, immobilization of SLZ on a sensor chip using surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy completely prevents the formation of the inclusion complex with beta-CD.

Summary: This study presents a method for preparing high-performance thermosetting PPO resins based on benzoxazine chemistry and interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) structure design. Two series of prepolymers were prepared by blending bisphenol A/furfurylamine benzoxazine (B-f) or bisphenol A/aniline benzoxazine (B-a) with methacrylate-terminated oligo(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (SA9000). IPN films were fabricated by simultaneous polymerization reactions of SA9000 and benzoxazines. The B-f/SA9000 films exhibited better miscibility, higher thermal resistance, low dielectric constants, and low-loss grade dielectric losses at 10 GHz compared to B-a based films.

Summary: The development of multifunctional injectable adhesive hydrogels with self-healing capacity, shape adaptability, on-demand removability, and excellent photothermal antibacterial activity is highly recommended for bacteria-infected wound healing. This study presents an injectable adhesive self-healing hydrogel with multiple-dynamic-bond crosslinking, adhesive properties, and photothermal antibacterial activity. The hydrogel can adhere well to the skin under water, has good shape adaptability, and can be removed without second damage to the wound. The introduction of polydopamine nanoparticles into the hydrogel enhances its photothermal antibacterial activity. These hydrogels have shown superior performance in promoting wound healing by reducing inflammation, accelerating collagen deposition, and promoting blood vessel reconstruction.
