Summary: A metal, solvent and oxidant free method has been developed for the synthesis of quinazolin-4(3H)-ones under microwave irradiation. Using the same catalyst, 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones were also synthesized in water as a green and sustainable solvent. These protocols offer a simplistic and rapid approach for assembling diverse structural quinazolinones.

Summary: This study presents an innovative method for the synthesis of 2-thioxo-2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones using nano-micellar assembly of surfactant as a nano-reactor. The surfactant concentration in micelles was determined to be 0.002 mol.dm(-3), and the system properties were characterized by TGA and SAXS analyses.

Summary: The research indicates that silica-coated cobalt ferrite nanoparticles exhibit significant stability of magnetic core and - OH functional groups on the surface, making them suitable for functionalization and catalytic applications. A Cu(II) complex-modified magnetic solid support was successfully prepared and evaluated for catalytic activity in the synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones, resulting in high yields of desired products.

Summary: A promising strategy for the synthesis of pharmaceutically important scaffold 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones through heterogeneous catalysis employing the principle of multicomponent reaction has been presented in this paper. The researchers designed and synthesized NiFe-Fe2O3 catalyst and successfully prepared NiFe alloy nanoparticles with a mean diameter of 3.57 nm to be used in the synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones. These nanoparticles exhibit high catalytic activity due to their specific morphology and exposed surfaces.

Summary: A silica-supported iron complex has been identified as a highly active and reusable catalyst for the synthesis of medicinally important 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones. The catalyst showed high turnover number (TON) and turnover frequency (TOF), with successful synthesis of a diverse library of compounds in ppm levels of Fe using water as a solvent. The eco-friendly and sustainable protocol also demonstrated wide substrate scope, shorter reaction time, and gram-scale synthesis.

Summary: A type of Al-MCM-41 supported dual imidazolium ionic liquids nanocomposites have been synthesized and efficiently used as catalysts in the one-pot synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones. The highest efficiency was achieved in the condensation of aldehydes and anthranilamide using the (2)Al-MCM41@ILCeCl4(0.5) solid catalyst under mild conditions. The reaction follows a heterogeneous pathway and the catalyst shows stability, high activity, robustness, and good recyclability.

Summary: An unprecedented Pd(II)-catalyzed cascade annulation of o-aminobenzoic acids with CO, amines, and aldehydes has been developed. This method provides an efficient and concise approach for the selective construction of N3-substituted and N1,N3-disubstituted 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones, mostly in moderate to excellent yields, from simple and easily available starting materials under mild conditions characterized by low cost, high step economy, broad substrate scope, and good product diversity.

Summary: We have developed a highly efficient magnetic EDTA-coated catalyst, Fe3O4@EDTA/CuI, via a simple approach for the catalytic synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolinones. The catalyst demonstrated high efficiency, easy operability, magnetically recoverability, and reusability. The green metrics of the catalytic synthesis were also in correlation with the ideal values.

Compounds synthesized and evaluated in this study showed potential antioxidant, enzyme inhibitory, and cytotoxic activities. Some derivatives demonstrated cytotoxic effects through modulation of apoptosis regulators and cell cycle arrest.
