Summary: [Fe(Htrz)2(trz)](BF4) (Fe-triazole) spin crossover molecules exhibit thermal, electrical, and optical switching between high spin (HS) and low spin (LS) states, making them promising for molecular spintronics. In this study, nitrogen vacancy (NV) based magnetometry is used to investigate the magnetic properties of the Fe-triazole LS state in nanoparticle clusters and individual nanorods. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy are employed to determine the size of the nanoparticles/nanorods and confirm their spin states. The results demonstrate the potential of NV quantum sensors for studying the magnetic properties of spin crossover molecules and molecular magnets.

Summary: Synthesis is essential in experimental chemistry. In this study, monodisperse K3PMo12O40 square nH(2)O polyoxometalates (POMs) with different morphologies were successfully synthesized by adjusting the synthetic conditions of K/POM ratio, stirring speed and time, and reaction temperatures. Among these factors, the K/POM ratio was found to be the most critical in controlling the morphology of K3PMo12O40 square nH(2)O particles, transforming them from cubes to spheres. Additionally, the morphological transformations were identified through a self-assembly and Ostwald ripening process, providing a generic synthetic strategy for the POM systems. Such strategies are important for applications in catalytic or surface-demanding fields requiring POM materials with controlled morphology.

Summary: Uniform-sized iron oxide nanoparticles were encapsulated inside a silica shell using the reverse microemulsion technique, then transformed into iron nitride through thermal treatment under NH3. The resulting core/shell nanostructures exhibited high uniformity in particle-size distribution. The acid-resistant properties of the iron nitride at silica core/shell nanostructures were significantly higher than the starting iron oxide at silica.

Summary: A mononuclear Fe(III) complex with a rare distorted octahedral structure and a 3D supramolecular structure has been synthesized and characterized. The complex shows hysteric spin-crossover behavior above room temperature and exhibits a light-induced excited spin state trapping effect. The N-H center dot center dot center dot Cl hydrogen bonding plays an important role in the magnetism-structure relationship of the complex.

Summary: Two benchmark Fe(II)-triazole spin-crossover compounds, [Fe(Htrz)2trz]BF4 (1) and [Fe(NH2trz)3]SO4 (2), were investigated using various techniques to evaluate their transformation strain, compressibility, and anisotropy. Elastic softening and mechanical damping were observed during the spin-crossover process in both compounds, suggesting a coupling between spin state and lattice strain. The elastic potential energy, stored elastic work, and frictional work were assessed, providing important insights for understanding the behavior of this compound family and guiding their technological applications.

Summary: A new study revealed that the elastic coupling in the new SCO material occurs across multiple dimensional hierarchies, with intra-trimer coupling being significantly greater than intramolecular and intermolecular coupling. This clear hierarchy in the nature of elastic coupling in SCO materials is essential for the technological development of molecular switching materials.

Summary: This study reports the direct electrochemical synthesis of four iron-based MOFs via controlled potential oxidation of dissolved metal cations. It represents the first general route that employs interfacial electrochemistry to alter the oxidation state of metal ions dissolved in solution to directly trigger MOF formation. The reported method is functional group tolerant and broadly applicable to the bulk synthesis or surface growth of a range of MOFs based on metal ions with accessible oxidation states.

Summary: This study investigated the atomic-level structure of lead-free halide double perovskite alloys using solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (ssNMR) techniques, revealing that paramagnetic Fe3+ ions replace diamagnetic In3+ ions in the lattice structure. The formation of [FeCl6](3-)center dot[AgCl6](5-) domains with different sizes and distribution modes was observed in the alloys, providing insights into the bandgap engineering of double perovskites.
