Summary: Trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) and PPh3 are used in a mild dehydrative glycosylation reaction to produce glycosides. The reaction shows good functional group tolerance and can be used with a wide variety of nucleophiles, resulting in good to excellent yields. The reaction progress is monitored by mass and NMR spectroscopy, and alkoxyphosphonium ions are hypothesized to be the reactive intermediate.

Summary: Here, an original and sustainable synthetic methodology for the synthesis of 3-selanyl-isoflavones from 2-hydroxyphenyl enaminones and diorganoyl diselenides is presented. The reaction, promoted by trichloroisocyanuric acid and using ethanol as a solvent, proceeds in a one-pot manner under mild conditions. Using this protocol, 22 examples of 3-selanyl-isoflavones were prepared in yields ranging from 34% to 95%.

Summary: A catalyst-free, site-selective diverse functionalization of latent C-H bonds in 1-aryl-beta-carbolines and natural norharmane and harmine has been achieved. This method utilizes cost-effective, eco-friendly reagents to enable the functionalization of these compounds, providing moderate to good yields. It is applicable to a broad range of substrate functionalities and can successfully chlorinate and brominate natural alkaloids. Further diversification of the products is also possible through reduction and Suzuki coupling reactions.

Summary: An improved method for efficiently synthesizing 2-OH thioaryl glycosides from per-protected glycals was developed. The method involved the oxidation of glycals with oxone to prepare 1,2-anhydro sugars, followed by reaction with NaBH4 and aryl disulfides. This method was also used in a one-pot reaction to synthesize glycosyl donors with both armed and NGP effects.

Summary: This study investigates the interactions between trichloroisocyanuric acid and carboxamides during the nitration of heterocyclic compounds. The analysis of reaction kinetics and solvent properties suggests the importance of dielectric constant and other solvent properties in controlling the reaction. Negative entropies of activation and isokinetic temperature values indicate the significance of enthalpy and entropy factors in the reaction process.

Summary: A simple and efficient protocol for the preparation of alpha-glycosyl chlorides using stable and cheap TCCA as chlorinating agent is described. This method is applicable to a wide range of substrates and compatible with labile hydroxyl protecting groups. Furthermore, a one-pot glycosylation can be carried out to transform glycosyl hemiacetals to O-glycosides without separation or purification of the alpha-glycosyl chloride donors.

Summary: Glycosylation is an important method of modifying natural products and is usually catalyzed by UDP-glycosyltransferase. The high regioselectivity UDP-arabinosyltransferase for pentacyclic triterpenoids is rarely reported. This research establishes an arabinosylation platform that shows great potential in enhancing the pharmacological activity of natural products.

Summary: The study presents a total synthesis of a chimeric glycolipid incorporating both sponge-derived agminoside E and bacterial rhamnolipids. The synthesis of the branched pentaglucolipid skeleton involved a [3 + 2] disconnection approach, with key glycosidic bonds synthesized through stereoselective glycosylations. This work lays the foundation for the total synthesis of sponge-derived agminosides and the exploration of their biological functions in sponges.

Summary: This study synthesized three mononuclear Ru(ii) complexes as catalysts for transfer hydrogenation reactions, with tridentate phosphine-carboxamide based ligands providing a NNP coordination environment. These Ru(ii) complexes showed additional coordination with CO, Cl, and CH3OH. The research also revealed the involvement of Ru-H intermediates in the catalysis process.

Summary: In this study, the reactivities of phenylthio alpha- and beta-sialyl donors protected at C-4 with tert-butyldimethyl silyl (TBDMS) and tri-isopropylsilyl (TIPS) groups in coupling reactions with different types of galactosyl acceptors were compared. The effect of solvent and donor's anomeric configuration on the reactions were investigated. The results demonstrate the significant influence of silicon groups at C-4 in sialylation reactions, with overall performance optimized using acetonitrile.

Summary: Hypervalent iodine(iii)-derivatives have higher catalytic activity than other aliphatic and aromatic iodine(i)- or bromine(i)-containing substrates for a Knorr-type reaction, with dibenziodolium triflate showing the highest activity for generating N-acyl pyrazoles. The catalytic activity of iodine(iii) is attributed to its binding with a ketone, as indicated by H-1 NMR titration data and DFT calculations.

Summary: A UGT109A3 enzyme from Bacillus subtilis was found to glycosylate glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) to form 3,30-O-beta-D-diglucoside-GA. Coupling microbial UGT109A3 with plant SUS allows for efficient and economical biosynthesis of GA-diglucoside, which exhibits improved water solubility and dose-dependent cytotoxicity against human colon carcinoma cells.

Summary: We describe the synthesis and characterization of a photoactivated boron-based Lewis acid catalyst with a cage-shaped triphenolic ligand and three pyrenylmethyl moieties. This catalyst functions as a photoactivated Lewis acid catalyst due to the flexible three pyrenylmethyl moieties, which drive the deformation of the cage-shaped scaffold through intramolecular excimer formations of the pyrenes. Mannich-type reactions and glycosylations are significantly accelerated under 370 nm light irradiations. Notably, various glycosyl fluorides, which are not easily activated in photocatalytic systems, can be activated by the improved catalytic activity of this catalyst.

Summary: Carbohydrates play essential roles in human health, but they can also be involved in detrimental processes such as microbial infections and cancer metastasis. Vaccination is recommended as the best preventive measure for managing pathogenic processes caused by bacteria, as it can lead to the eradication of bacterial diseases. However, existing vaccines, while effective in preventing bacterial diseases, also have some disadvantages.
