Summary: An increasing number of studies have shown that beta-hydroxy-beta-methyl butyrate (HMB) can lower lipid levels. However, the use of adipocytes as a research model has not been explored. In this study, the effects of HMB on lipid metabolism and mitochondrial function in adipocytes were investigated. It was found that HMB promoted cell proliferation and reduced fat accumulation in adipocytes. HMB also altered the expression of lipogenic and lipolysis-related proteins, as well as the concentrations of lipid metabolism-related enzymes and fatty acid composition in adipocytes. Furthermore, HMB enhanced mitochondrial respiratory function, fat browning, and improved insulin sensitivity in adipocytes.

Summary: This study found that thyroid hormone responsive protein (THRSP) is regulated by insulin in human adipose tissue and adipocytes. Insulin resistance leads to downregulation of THRSP expression. Silencing of THRSP results in impaired mitochondrial function and disrupted lipid metabolism.

Summary: Seipin plays a crucial role in the assembly and maintenance of cytoplasmic lipid droplets, and its absence can lead to lipodystrophy. New evidence suggests that Seipin attracts triglyceride monomers for droplet formation, but may not be directly involved in the assembly of nuclear lipid droplets. Additionally, Seipin may also suppress the formation of nuclear lipid droplets.

Summary: BCAA are essential in the diet and have effects on cell energetics, especially in mitochondrial biogenesis. However, the physiological relevance of these findings in humans is still unclear. Further well-controlled diet studies are needed to evaluate the association between BCAA consumption and increased mitochondrial biogenesis and improved metabolic outcomes.

Summary: The study found that a 50% leucine restriction diet in mice reduced fat mass and improved glucose regulation by modulating lipid synthesis and lipolysis pathway in adipose tissue, as well as enhancing insulin signaling in muscle. This suggests a potential strategy for reducing fat and improving metabolism status through leucine restriction before clinical studies.

Summary: This study demonstrated that roselle extract can reduce body weight, food intake, lipid profiles, inflammatory cytokines, lipid peroxidation, serum leptin, insulin, and duodenal glucose absorption, while significantly increasing glucose uptake of adipose tissue and muscle compared to a high-fat diet group. Roselle can prevent lipid accumulation by suppressing differentiation of 3T3-L1 adipocyte through downregulating adipogenic gene expression, providing an alternative approach for preventing obesity-related insulin resistance.
