Summary: Ionic liquids have shown great potential in organic transformations, serving as solvents, additives, or catalysts. Superbasic ionic liquids constructed from guanidine and amidine derivatives hold promise in accelerating various organic reactions due to their adjustable properties. These classic ionic liquids with high stability and novel properties have found applications in catalysis, electrochemistry, spectroscopy, and materials science, and have potential environmental impact. Notably, superionic liquids have been widely used in the chemical transformation of CO2. This review provides an overview of the organic syntheses promoted by superionic liquids in recent years.

Summary: This Perspective highlights the pathways to prepare porous ionic liquids using easily accessible materials for reduced environmental impact. The study demonstrates that suspensions of porous solids are stable in eutectic mixtures, which indicates their potential in preparing porous ionic liquids. Porous ionic liquids maintain the wide electrochemical window observed in their precursor pure ionic liquids, making them suitable for green electrochemical reactions, especially those involving gases with enhanced solubility in the porous suspensions. Furthermore, their capacity as gas-rich media suggests potential sustainable biomedical and pharmaceutical applications, provided that non-toxic, biocompatible ionic liquids and porous solids are utilized.

Summary: A green chemistry strategy has been developed to separate and regenerate waste textiles at the molecular level, aiming to reduce the large amount of waste textiles generated by the fast fashion industry. This strategy also provides a new source of fibers to address fossil fuel reserve shortages caused by chemical fiber industries and global food shortages caused by natural fiber production.

Summary: Due to the increasing environmental pollution and its detrimental impact on the ecosystem, scientists have developed new chemical strategies using eco-friendly chemicals, solvents, catalysts, and alternative energy sources. Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are low-melting mixtures primarily consisting of quaternary ammonium salt and hydrogen-bond acceptors. DESs have advantages such as low toxicity, easy preparation, low cost, biodegradability, low vapor pressure, and recyclability.

Summary: Chitooligosaccharide (COS), an emerging material carbohydrate polymer, was prepared using a microwave-assisted process. The COS was then used to synthesize COS-poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) derivatives through aza-Michael addition. The resulting COS-PEGDA hydrogels showed high biocompatibility and can be potentially used in biomedical applications.

Summary: Chiral imidazolium l-prolinate salts have been studied as green and efficient chiral organocatalysts for direct asymmetric aldol reactions at room temperature. The presence of chirality in both the imidazolium cation and prolinate anion plays a significant role in transferring chirality from the organocatalyst to the aldol product. By selecting proper structural elements in the cation and anion, excellent activities, selectivities, and enantioselectivities can be achieved.

Summary: This study reports two highly enantioselective and diastereoselective catalytic Mukaiyama aldol reactions, which directly deliver valuable silyl protected propionaldehyde aldols with control over stereochemistry. A single atom modification in the catalyst core leads to a dramatic switch in enantioselectivity of the aldehyde through unconventional C-H hydrogen bonding interactions.
