Summary: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play a crucial role in the development and progression of endometrial cancer, with significantly elevated levels in cancer patients compared to normal individuals. Understanding the role of MMPs may have implications for diagnosis and treatment of endometrial cancer.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the association between MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1 and chest radiological findings in COVID-19 patients. The results showed that COVID-19 patients had higher plasma levels of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 compared to healthy donors, and the ARDS group had higher levels of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 and the activity of MMP-2 and MMP-9 compared to the non-ARDS group. There was a positive correlation between TIMP-1 levels and chest CT scores. After three months of discharge, TIMP-1 levels decreased while MMP-9 levels increased.

Summary: The study revealed the correlation between miR-146b-5p regulation of TIMP4 and atrial fibrosis in AF. Experimental results showed that miR-146b-5p transfection increased collagen synthesis, while inhibition of miR-146b-5p helped reduce cardiac fibrosis phenotypes.

Summary: The study found that in PXG patients, the protein expression of TGF beta 1, MMP-9, and FN1 was upregulated in tears, tenon's capsule, and AH samples, while MMP-9 protein activity was downregulated. Additionally, certain cytokines showed significant differences between PXG and PXF, suggesting that alterations in the expression of these molecules in tears could serve as a signal for the onset of glaucoma.

Summary: The importance of early diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and its cutaneous complications is increasingly recognized. High glucose affects collagen gene expression in human dermal fibroblasts, leading to an imbalance of matrix metalloproteinases and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases. Inhibiting MMP-2 and MMP-9 can alleviate collagen deposition disorder in the skin of diabetic mice.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of cataract extraction on the detection of pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXF) by ophthalmologists. A comparative study was conducted on 31 patients undergoing cataract surgery. Pre-operatively, 12 patients were diagnosed with PXF, and post-operatively, the diagnosis of PXF did not differ significantly. However, the detection of anterior capsular deposits, Sampaolesi lines, and pupillary ruff deposits were significantly lower after surgery.

Summary: Extracellular proteolysis and turnover play crucial roles in tissue homeostasis. MMPs, as the main matrix-degrading enzymes, are regulated by TIMPs. The balance between MMP activity and TIMP levels is essential for healthy tissue homeostasis and can be disrupted in pathological conditions.

Summary: The expression levels of miRNA in the aqueous humor of PEXG patients were evaluated using expression microarray method. Twenty new miRNA molecules potentially associated with the development or progression of PEXG were identified. Functional and enrichment analysis revealed that these miRNAs may regulate mechanisms related to extracellular matrix imbalance, cell apoptosis (possibly retinal ganglion cells), autophagy, and elevated calcium cation levels in PEXG. However, further research is needed to understand the exact molecular basis of PEXG.

Summary: The study compared the clusterin levels in aqueous humor and serum of PEX, PEXG, POAG patients, and controls. The study found higher clusterin levels in the anterior chamber of PEXG patients, with a possible association in POAG as well.

Summary: This study revealed alterations in autoantibody levels in glaucoma patients and identified important subgroup predictors, enhancing prospective glaucoma subtype prediction. Furthermore, it provided insights into the characteristics of glaucoma-related antigens and their role in glaucoma pathogenesis, proposing new diagnostic approaches for glaucoma.

Summary: The APOE4 allele increases the risk for Alzheimer's disease in a dose-dependent manner and is associated with cognitive decline. A study using mice with targeted gene replacement showed that APOE4 reduces neuronal dendritic complexity and impairs learning. APOE4 also reduces gamma oscillation power, important for learning and memory. The present study found that CCL5, an ECM effector, is increased in CSF samples from APOE4 individuals, and TIMPs, which inhibit ECM-degrading enzymes, are increased in APOE4 CSF and brain lysates. Knockout of CCR5, a receptor for CCL5, enhanced gamma power and improved learning and memory.

Summary: This retrospective single-center study compared the safety and effectiveness of Preserflo (TM) MicroShunt (MicroShunt) implantations with trabeculectomies (TETs) in patients with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PEXG). The results showed that both treatments significantly reduced intraocular pressure (IOP) and the need for medications. The success rates and postoperative complications were comparable between the two groups. The study concluded that MicroShunt implantation is non-inferior to TET in terms of efficacy and safety in PEXG patients.

Summary: This study demonstrates that decreased retinoic acid (RA) signaling in conjunction with hyperactivated TGF-beta1/Smad signaling is a driver of Pseudoexfoliation (PEX)-associated fibrosis. Restoration of RA signaling may be a promising strategy for anti-fibrotic intervention in patients with PEX syndrome and glaucoma.
