Summary: This study introduces a new method that combines geodetic and in situ groundwater data to estimate groundwater storage change in the Parowan Valley. The results show that both fine- and coarse-grained layers contribute equally to the total groundwater storage loss, but fine-grained layers dominate in confined aquifers. These findings have important implications for understanding the source of groundwater in depleting aquifer systems.

Summary: The rapid adoption of Deep Learning (DL) systems in safety critical domains necessitates the testing of their correctness and robustness. In this article, we propose Surprise Adequacy (SA) as a test adequacy criterion, which measures the difference between the behavior of a DL system for a given input and its behavior for training data. We demonstrate that SA can predict model behavior correctness and detect adversarial examples.

Summary: The study presents a conceptual model based on groundwater dynamics equation, successfully validated on groundwater level data, which effectively describes drainage/irrigation time, soil profile leakage, soil moisture content in the root zone, and the groundwater table shape. The model, with a relatively simple flow representation through the soil profile, shows potential in conceptualizing drainage-irrigation development and evaluating water management practices in a valley system affected by horizontal inflows.

Summary: The Oued Souf Valley in Algeria has been experiencing rising groundwater levels, leading to the construction of a vertical drainage system. Research evaluated the system's performance and impact on groundwater stabilization using geostatistical modeling and hierarchical cluster analysis, revealing that overexploitation and illegal usage of groundwater are key factors affecting groundwater stability.

Summary: This study establishes a 3D model of subsurface structures by combining noise recordings and shear-wave velocity profiles, and tests and verifies the accuracy of the model. The results show that ambient vibration techniques are powerful tools for reconstructing 3D models of the subsurface.

Summary: This paper explores the hydrogeological characteristics and mine water inflow issues in the southern coalfields of China, using the Meitanba mine as a case study. The research reveals the relationship between mine water inflow and factors such as mining depth, development of karst structures, and rainfall infiltration. By employing the big well method and a hydrogeological model, the prediction of mine water inflow trends is made possible.

Summary: This study assesses the behavior of the Quaternary aquifer in Assuit governorate under different management discharge/recharge scenarios. Sensitivity analysis identified hydraulic conductivity as the most sensitive parameter, and proposed discharge scenarios would result in groundwater head reductions and decreased recharge.

Summary: A detailed hydrogeological study was conducted in Madrid urbanization area to address unexpected issues related to water table flooding during excavations. Exploration drilling helped develop a conceptual model of hydrogeological functioning. Modeling with MODDFLOW confirmed the model and led to the design of an efficient drainage network to ensure groundwater sustainability.

Summary: This study investigates the penetration depth of post-1950s recharge in aquifers to identify groundwater vulnerable to human contamination. The study uses a four-dimensional approach to compute, interpolate, and project the depth values across time in the Central Valley aquifer system in California. The results show that the penetration depth is expected to increase in the future, which may lead to an increase in anthropogenic contaminants.

Summary: The study investigates the dynamic performance of GWS downscaling by developing a new metric for estimating the downscaling gain against non-downscaled GWS. The new validation approach is tested over a fractured granitic aquifer in southern India. The downscaling performance is evaluated by comparing the downscaled versus in situ GWS data over a total of 38 pixels at 0.5 degrees resolution.

Summary: Sustainable groundwater management requires accurate and timely estimates of changes in groundwater storage. Satellite remote sensing measurements provide a potential solution by quantifying these changes through the water balance method. This study demonstrates the feasibility of using remote sensing data to estimate groundwater storage changes and highlights its importance in adaptive management and decision making.

Summary: The ongoing desiccation of California's Salton Sea has raised concerns about air quality and health for the surrounding communities, especially in the Coachella Valley. This study examines air pollution and health disparities in the Coachella Valley, with a focus on socioeconomic and demographic vulnerabilities. The findings suggest the need for greater attention to health issues in disadvantaged communities and highlight disparities in air pollution exposure, health outcomes, and population characteristics in the area.

Summary: Sea water intrusion is a global issue affecting coastal aquifers, with this study focusing on two real-time monitoring systems in Croatia and Italy to understand groundwater dynamics influenced by sea level oscillations and precipitation rates. The systems are shown to be crucial in providing qualitative and quantitative information on groundwater and surface water dynamics.

Summary: In the context of global warming, the majority of plateau lakes expand while some lakes on the southern Tibetan Plateau, like Duoqing Co Lake, are shrinking. Analysis of satellite and meteorological data revealed that the surrounding Como Chamling Lake has shrunk, while Puma Yum Co Lake has shown an expansion trend. The disappearance of Duoqing Co Lake may be attributed to leakage channels in the Yadong-Gulu Rift zone. This study provides new insights for understanding lake changes on the Tibetan Plateau and serves as a valuable reference for studying the lake water cycle in this region.
