Summary: EV71 is a common pathogen causing hand, foot, and mouth disease in young children, and it is associated with severe neurological complications. This study found that the ER-resident acetyltransferase NAT8 is a host factor for EV71 infection and promotes viral replication by interacting with viral proteins.

Summary: Infection of the central nervous system caused by enterovirus 71 (EV71) in hand-foot-and-mouth disease is the main cause of death. This study identified a new pathway by which EV71 enters human brain microvascular endothelial cells (HBMECs) and showed its dependence on ADP-ribosylation factor 6 (ARF6). Inhibition of ARF6 reduced EV71 infectivity in HBMECs and a specific inhibitor of ARF6 alleviated EV71 infection mortality in mice.

Summary: To date, the C1 subgenotype of Enterovirus 71 (EV71) has not been reported in the Chinese mainland. However, a retrospective study conducted on AFP cases from 1985-1999 identified a strain of EV-A71 C1 subgenotype. This study provides evidence that the C1 gene subtype also appeared in the Chinese mainland.

Summary: Bovine enterovirus (BEV), a pathogen that infects cattle, has a novel genotype of enterovirus that has been found in herds of cattle in China for the first time. This new enterovirus has significant differences in homology and cellular adaptation compared to other enteroviruses. This study provides important information about the biological characteristics and prevalence of this novel enterovirus in Chinese cattle populations.

Summary: This study investigates the interactions between enterovirus 71 (EV71) and the biofilm formed by Helicobacter pylori. The results show that the H. pylori biofilm can prolong the survival of EV71 and the quantity of biofilm formation affects the viability of the virus. This suggests that the H. pylori biofilm may serve as an additional pathway for EV71 transmission.

Summary: This study explores the role of HSP90 in EV71 replication and its potential as a target for anti-EV71 agents. It finds that a HSP90 inhibitor, VER50589, can effectively inhibit EV71 replication and also shows activity against other enteroviruses. The antiviral activity of VER50589 is mediated through the regulation of the AKT and RAF/MEK/ERK signaling pathways.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the structure and anti-enterovirus 71 (EV71) effects of polysaccharides extracted from the roots of Sanguisorba officinalis (SO), traditionally used for infectious diseases. The results showed that the purified polysaccharide (S-a3) significantly inhibited cell death and viral gene expression in EV71-infected cells, and alleviated EV71-induced symptoms in a mouse model. The effective dose of S-a3 was non-toxic. This study demonstrates that polysaccharides from SO can be a safe and effective treatment for EV71 infection.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of mulberry leaf on enterovirus 71 (EV71) using network pharmacology, molecular docking, and in vitro experiments. The results revealed that quercetin, a major ingredient in mulberry leaf, exhibits potent anti-EV71 properties by inhibiting the NF-kappa B signaling pathway.

Summary: The use of EV-A71 inactivated vaccine in Kunming City significantly reduced the incidence of EV-A71, while increasing the proportion of non-CV-A16/EV-A71 EVs infections. CV-A6 was identified as the most important causative agent in all clinical symptoms, highlighting the need for developing 4-valent combined vaccines to provide broader protection.
