Summary: Non-targeted PFAS analysis was applied to human blood to understand the sources, concentrations, and toxicity of these compounds. High-resolution tandem mass spectrometry and software workflow were used for PFAS characterization in dried blood spots. A total of 28 PFAS and 86 potential PFAS were detected, providing insights for environmental epidemiology studies and policy-making.

Summary: In this study, a real-time nanomotion sensor was used to investigate the ATP-producing metabolism of red blood cells (RBCs) and their changes during aging. The results showed that RBCs from favism patients exhibited a higher resilience to aging-related insults compared to healthy cells, indicating a special mechanism of metabolic regulation.

Summary: The study identified increased levels of 4PYR in experimental breast cancer models, with higher blood levels associated with likelihood of metastasis. The findings suggest that 4PYR may induce metabolic disturbances that favor cancer progression by affecting endothelial permeability.

Summary: This study developed a workflow to investigate the metabolic changes in blood components after irradiation, identifying specific metabolites and pathways affected by irradiation. The results showed modulation of taurine and hypotaurine metabolism in plasma, as well as purine metabolism in RBCs and PBMCs. These findings offer insights into the impact of irradiation on blood metabolism.

Summary: A unique fluorescence chemosensing method has been developed for the simultaneous selective determination of ATP. Through UV-vis and fluorescence measurements, NMR titrations, and TDDFT calculations, the sensing mechanism and electronic properties of the receptor-donor complex were thoroughly studied. This method has been successfully used to detect and quantify ATP in human cancer cells.

Summary: Coenzyme A, acetyl coenzyme A, coenzymes of cellular energy, coenzymes of redox reactions, and antioxidants play important roles in cellular functions. However, measuring them accurately in biological specimens is challenging due to their sensitivity to specimen harvesting, extraction, and measurement conditions. This study proposes a new method to profile the distribution of labile metabolites in different organs using NMR spectroscopy and provides insights into the differential functional roles of stable and unstable metabolites.

Summary: The study reveals that NLRP14 is crucial for maintaining calcium oscillations and early embryonic development. Disruption of NLRP14 leads to impaired cytoplasmic function and calcium homeostasis due to altered mitochondrial distribution, morphology, and activity. The interaction between NLRP14 and the mitochondrial Na+/Ca2+ exchanger (NCLX) is essential for regulating calcium homeostasis and embryonic development.

Summary: Spraying a tertiary blend of insecticides on tomato fruits is common in agriculture-attentive countries. A simple green sample preparation technique was developed and applied to field samples. HP-TLC and RP-HPLC methods were established to estimate the residual insecticides and applied to prepared field specimens.

Summary: Cordycepin from Cordyceps has potential as an alternative medicine due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects. To accurately evaluate its pharmacokinetic properties, a sensitive and selective chromatography-mass spectrometry method was developed to determine cordycepin and its metabolite in rat blood. The study also found that an adenosine deaminase inhibitor significantly prolonged the half-life of cordycepin in vivo.

Summary: Research indicates that using dried blood spots (DBS) as an alternative sampling method is feasible for controlling the abuse of prohibited substances such as anabolic steroids. The 11-minute liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry method developed for equine blood samples from DBS cards showed reproducible results and good stability after storage at ambient temperatures for almost 3 months. Therefore, DBS may be an effective alternative sampling approach in equine drug testing.

Summary: Our study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the use of fluoroquinolone (FQ) agents in periodontitis patients, showing that FQ administration results in reduced probing depth change, bleeding on probing, and subgingival detection of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. The study also found a low number of adverse events in patients receiving FQ compared to those on an antibiotic-free therapy.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the analgesic effect and adverse effects of tapentadol immediate release (IR) after a bunionectomy. The results showed that tapentadol was more effective in relieving postoperative pain compared to placebo, and the adverse effects were dose-dependent, with the highest number observed in the 100 mg dose of tapentadol IR. The meta-analysis concluded that tapentadol IR (100 mg) had the highest satisfaction score.

Summary: This study discovered a mixture of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and quercetin that exhibited antioxidant synergism at low concentrations and evaluated its preservative effect on refrigerated ground beef patties. Results indicated that the 1:5 BHT-quercetin combination had a higher antioxidant activity compared to BHT alone. This combination showed beneficial effects on various quality attributes of the beef patties, such as color, antioxidant capacity, and metmyoglobin content, similar to higher concentrations of BHT or quercetin. Therefore, the 1:5 BHT-quercetin combination could be a suitable alternative to the individual addition of high concentrations of these compounds in the meat industry.
