Summary: This study found that smoking exposure is associated with early vascular damage in children and adolescents, affecting indices such as flow-mediated dilatation, pulse wave velocity, and carotid intima-media thickness. Both active and passive smoking were shown to have a negative impact on arterial health, emphasizing the importance of preventing smoking exposure in young age groups.

Summary: This study examined the impact of exposure to siblings' drinking on adolescent alcohol use. The results showed that adolescents with more exposure to sibling drinking were more likely to have consumed alcohol in the past 6 months and past 4 weeks, as well as engaging in binge drinking. This association remained significant even after considering the influence of other role models.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis found a significant association between childhood and adolescent obesity and increased incidence and mortality of cancers in adulthood. The risk of cancer was higher in women compared to men. Therefore, preventing childhood obesity can reduce the burden of cancer in adulthood.

Summary: The meta-analysis of 55 eligible studies found that maternal environmental exposure to pesticides during pregnancy is associated with increased risk of childhood leukemia, especially acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Higher risks were observed for specific subtypes of pesticides like herbicides and insecticides. The evidence suggests a stronger association with leukemia for maternal exposure during pregnancy compared to childhood exposure.

Summary: This study found that early-life exposure to antibiotics may increase the risk of overweight/obesity in children and adolescents, particularly with antenatal and early postnatal exposure. However, due to the very low certainty of evidence, further prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis examines parental acceptance, hesitancy, uptake, and associated factors of seasonal influenza vaccination (SIV) among children aged 6-59 months. The study included 36 articles and found that the overall prevalence rates were 64% for parental acceptance, 34% for parental hesitancy, 41% for SIV uptake in the last flu season, and 46% for SIV uptake in a lifetime. Meta-regression analysis revealed regional differences in parental acceptance, with the Americas having a higher acceptance rate (79%) compared to Asia (60%).

Summary: Emotion dysregulation is a transdiagnostic factor in the development of various mental and behavioral disorders. This systematic review and meta-analysis investigates the association between parenting dimensions/styles and emotion dysregulation in childhood and adolescence. The findings suggest that positive parenting is negatively associated with emotion dysregulation, while negative parenting is positively associated.

Summary: In rural China, there is a high prevalence of cognitive, language, and social-emotional delays in children under 5 years old (45%, 46%, and 36% respectively). Parental training programmes have been shown to have a positive impact on child development outcomes in these areas, highlighting the importance of early investment in young children through stimulating parenting practices.

Summary: The current study aimed to examine the association between parental smoking and increased positivity in the smoker image during early adolescence. A total of 432 participants were surveyed about parental smoking, smoker image, and smoking susceptibility for three consecutive years starting at age 10. The results showed that parental smoking was related to developmental increases in a positive smoker image. Furthermore, the slope of smoker image from age 10 to 12 was positively associated with smoking susceptibility at age 12. Thus, parental smoking is a risk factor for developing a positive smoker image and smoking onset before children are exposed to smoking peers.
